While Selangor is talking about radical changes, PAS is talking about Hudud laws in Kedah, as if Hudud is the answer for all ills. What about the non-Muslims who voted PAS in Kedah, they do have moral laws based on their religion. The religious angle is what bothered non-Muslims about PAS. Maybe it is right PAS will never change its skin. Kedahans who are not Muslims, please wait for another 5 years.

Khalid promises radical changes as S’gor MB

The establishment for state coalition government in Selangor will be a litmus test on whether the opposition will be able to show critics that they can indeed work together.

At a press conference today, PKR secretary-general Khalid Ibrahim said the opposition parties share a similar vision when it comes to developing the state.

Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang must be mad. This was the same old shit that non-Malays were frightened about with PAS. Say you want to improve moral values, but why use religion to do it, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Sikhism, have moral values too, don.t make me mad as to why I voted PAS. BN would not have done it, not this fast anyway. And if you think that only Muslims gave you that unprecedented victory for PAS you must be out of your knockers.

KOTA BAHARU, March 9 (Bernama) — PAS leaders plan to introduce Hudud (Islamic) criminal law in Kedah to become part of the state laws, despite the same move made in Kelantan and Terengganu before had sparked controversy as it ran contrary to the Federal Constitution.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the Kelantan state’s administration and management would be adopted for Kedah.

There it goes. I hope this is not true.

Hindraf: Make ISA detainee S’gor deputy MB

The Hindu Rights Action Force wants its legal advisor M Manoharan to be appointed as a deputy menteri besar in Selangor under the new state government to be formed by the opposition.

The opposition yesterday toppled the BN government by winning 36 seats out of 56 in the state. BN won the remaining 20 to be in the opposition in the state legislative assembly.

“And it is no secret that the Indian voters have delivered their votes for the opposition,” said Waythamoorthy who spoke to Malaysiakini from New Delhi, India.

He added that now it was time for the opposition to repay the trust placed on them by the Indian community and not to betray that trust.

“As such we hope that Manoharan will be appointed as a deputy menteri besar in Selangor. Likewise, we hope th opposition parties will appoint an Indian representative as a menteri besar or chief minister in the other states that they have won,” he added.

In a wedding procession the bridegroom must be present before it is called a procession as such. Similarly, let not the euphoria of the election cloud our thoughts. Manoharan must be released before he can sit in the Selangor state assembly. Work must be done on this before deciding what honors must be placed on him.The opposition won 36 seats and the PKR member is going to be new Menteri Besar. Manoharan is another one of the 36. There must be better candidates to fill in the Deputy Menteri Besar and in any case Mano was not entered as a Hindraf candidate but the opposition.

Hindraf influence helped. It does not automatically make any Indian candidate to be a Menteri Besar or deputy. They have to follow precedence in their own parties.

Let us not be not mindful of this.

Mukhriz tells PM: Do the right thing
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi faced mounting calls to quit today after his ruling coalition suffered a humiliating setback in elections seen as a referendum on his leadership.
Asked if the outcome was a vote of no confidence in his leadership, which has been criticised as weak and ineffective, Abdullah responded: “Maybe. There are a lot of messages from the people.”
“There is no pressure at this time,” he said when asked if he faced calls for him to resign.
But pressure did come, notably from former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who handed over to Abdullah in 2003 after two decades leading the Umno which dominates the Barisan Nasional coalition.
“My view is he has destroyed Umno, destroyed the BN and he has been responsible for this,” Mahathir told reporters.

The election results were a disaster for Barisan Nasional. After 39 years this has happened where opposition candidates have taken over 5 states. You just don’t continue as if everything is alright, since I have a simple majority I can still rule the country. If this done it is a mockery to all those who cast their votes including those voting the opposition. Elections are a way to feel the pulse of the voters whether the Government has over 4 years of service been successful or not. Apparently, things are not good. If things had been rosy the possibility arises the ruling party would have obtained more seats than the last time. Barisan National just won by the whiskers, Some thing is rotten in Denmark. There are 2 ways to solve this dilemma: one resign and the other ask for a last opportunity to make amends for all the failures during the last 4 years, including a complete overhaul of the government machinery and take immediate action against corrupted ones. The monotonous answer, it is not easy to prove corruption, is out of fashion, without evidence the corrupted issues would not have originated in the first place. For example Rafidah, is there no evidence and what about the oft repeated 18 corrupted VIPs.

There should be no 4th floor interference, as a Prime Minister, you consult but the onus of making the decision is yours. You don’t sign a paper at the last moment before leaving the office and call it I have done my job.

People want good governance and you being the first citizen must set the example what that means. You can’t say to the people tighten your belts, when buying for yourself a bigger one. That’s not fair.

Nor Mohamed won. You are a finance man and know nuts about transportation and its problems. Yes, you promised the service, but, please or please, go back ask the relevant authorities to study the proposal and then decide, it may also include bus services to other towns besides Tasek Gelugor.
The last administration did that, implementing policies without consultation and the chaos created is still fresh in the minds of the people. Your handing over gifts at random must stop. This is one of the failures of the old administration.
Nor Mohamed: I will keep promises

GEORGE TOWN: Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop clinched his first term as a member of parliament when he defeated Pas candidate Ismail Salleh.

Nor Mohamed was the only other BN parliamentary candidate in the state to win after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had retained his Kepala Batas seat.

The second finance minister won the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat with a majority of 4,457 votes after securing 20,448 votes. Ismail obtained 15,901 votes.

A total of 36,349 voters, or 87.98 per cent, cast their votes.

Nor Mohamed thanked the Tasek Gelugor voters for giving him the chance to serve them.

He attributed his victory to the hard work put in by the Tasek Gelugor election machinery, led by former MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shariff Omar.

Nor Mohamed said it was now time to fulfil all the promises that were made to the Tasek Gelugor people.

“For a start, the RapidPenang bus will begin its service in Tasek Gelugor as promised during the campaign,”

Election 2008 – the morning after (1)

Amazing.

Even as a DAP supporter I didn’t dare dream of the (to use Uncle Lim’s word) tsunamic force that has swept Malaysian politics. Makkal Sakti.

On landing after a night flight, I rushed impatiently to the Net to check Malaysiakini but as I had anticipated, the online news was chockablock with other excited, estatic and eager surfers. It didn’t allow me to catch up with what had happened since I left Penang last night.

So, I visited my blogging mate’s site, Lucia Lai’s Mental Jog, and found out that it’s confirmed – DAP in a loose coalition with PKR and PAS have taken Penang. Lucia also kindly provided a Malaysiakini alternative access, which I gratefully used.

So the 2008 Elections is over, Barisan Nasional did not get its 2/3 majority, 5 state seats will be ruled by the Opposition Parties, MIC is routed, once when he had only two solid voices to defend Indians, minus of course MIC members, there will be about 20 voices to raise their concern for this small community of 8%.With this mixed group of Malays, Chinese and Indians can we see the day when everybody is a Malaysian, truly. We may appreciate our ethnicity, but what it comes to the nation let nationalism take over and lets raise our voices as Malaysians.

Ktemoc or Kaytee is a seasoned blogger from 2004, please read his views on the Elections from the clip. To those who did not vote, possibly you were busy, or those who did not register, please do so immediately.

To voters and non-voters alike, now comes our duty and responsibility. Keep those elected representatives busy and on the alert. Get their phone numbers and e-mail addresses, bug them when you see anything not correct, negligence by civil servants, police misuse, and anything you consider unfair, keep them on their feet. Some of these representatives can only be seen or heard after another 5 years. Make them responsible for ruling the country as it should be done.
