Charge former minister: Police

For once bloggers as well as well as the people of this country praise the Police, a rare phenomenon, because every where the Police is involved it was a disaster, inefficiency, inequality, suspect, and generally incompetent. Are we seeing a change in the way the Police operate that every one is equal before the law.

Police have recommended that the former minister implicated in a sexual assault case be charged with the alleged offence, the New Straits Times reported today.

According to Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Muhammad Sabtu Osman, the police have completed their investigations and have recommended that the politician be charged with assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty.

He said the investigation papers had been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further instruction.

If charged and convicted under Section 354 of the Penal Code, the politician faces a maximum of 10 years’ jail, fine and whipping.

Muhammad Sabtu said police recorded statements from the politician, alleged victim and her boyfriend.

A serving MP from Umno?
The 30-year-old woman had lodged a report against the politician for allegedly ‘sexually assaulted’ her while she was at work in a cigar shop at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur Sentral, Brickfields on April 18.
The alleged incident happened four days earlier where the former minister was said to be drunk and had tried to caress the woman while she was serving him drinks.
However, the alleged victim retracted her report claiming that she had “mis-understood” the incident as she was “sensitive and moody” due to her “complicated mood” on April 24.
The politician was abroad at the time of the report and retraction. He however was questioned by the police and had his statement recorded on April 25.

The former minister is widely speculated to be from Umno and is a serving member of Parliament.
