KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) — Just about everybody – old or young, rural or urban folk – will be able to buy Malaysia’s own low cost tablet personal computer called Mak-Cik PC to access the internet with ease.

Specially designed by Mimos Bhd to help narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas, Mak-Cik PC will possibly be the thinnest PC in the world, weigh just 800 grams and perhaps cost as little as RM500 when it comes to the market sometime this year.

Shahidan said the idea of developing the Mak-Cik PC came from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who had asked Mimos in August last year to develop a low cost PC to help reduce the digital divide in the country.

Mak-Cik PC will act as a gateway to the internet, bringing internet content to the TV sets. It is also equipped with Wi-Fi and WiMax capabilities to enable remote connectivity.

Yes sir, thank you very much for this RM 500 PC. You will help us to increase the number of bloggers in Malaysia as our information gathering has been strangled by our local newspapers. As for me, I have to stick to my normal PC, I can’t image myself fighting with my wife on a day to day basis, every time a Tamil mega serial is on and I want to use the computer.
