I don’t know if you know about Bentong Kali, a notorious gangster who was killed by the Police. That was some years back. While discussing this with a friend who is in the know, he said Kali was killed because he knew much about the Policemen and that he was better dead as otherwise he would reveal some sordid details of some high Police officers.

Now we are told that 6 men  were killed by the Police in Kulim Kedah. One of them was a well known businessman. The others were his workers and friends. Three women were arrested, and it will be good to know what the story is.

I think our leaders should wake from their sleep and investigate this case to get to the root. Were the 6 criminals shot, as claimed by the Police justified or not. Who knows one day these leaders may face the same situation as the criminals if no complete investigation is done.

MPs want cops to explain Kedah killings

By Neville Spykerman

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Four lawmakers are demanding police explain yesterday’s shooting of six suspected criminals, all of who are from the Indian community, in Karangan Kulim, Kedah.

Padang Serai MP N.Gobalakrishnan said the men aged between 20 and 50-years-old were shot dead by a police team from Bukit Aman.

Gobalakrishnan told reporters in Parliament that among the dead were R.Elanggo, who is a distant relative of a former MIC assemblyman.

“His father is a goldsmith and Elanggo had a shop which deals with used computers.”

The others were Elanggo’s workers and friends.

Gobalakrishanan said the police should explain why they had to kill them and if procedures were followed.

“I been dozens of phone calls from the public who are concerned about the shooting last night.”

Kubang Kerian MP Dr Hatta Ramli said the police cannot just justify away their actions by saying they were criminals or they were shot at before they opened fire and killed all six.

He said they need to prove that their actions were lawful.

Batu MP Tian Chua said the incident will further erode public confidence in the police.

“This is the reason why an Independent Police Misconduct and Complaints (IPMC) Commission should be set up.”

Meanwhile Kulim Bandar Bahru Member of Parliament Zulkifli Noordin said the people in Kulim are shocked over what has happened.

“The police are alleging the men were suspected criminals who shot at police and two pistols were found at the scene.”

However he said that everyone in Karangan town knew Elanggo as a computer accessory shop owner while the others were his workers or his friends.

Zulkifli said local are uneasy over what has happened and want to know why and how they were shot dead and if there was abuse or negligence on the part of the police in the shooting.

“In fairness to everybody concerned and the public and to avoid misunderstanding or allegations, an independent inquiry should be held into the shootings.”

Meanwhile Bernama today reported that the six were suspected armed robbers and involved in crimes in several states.

Four women, aged between 21 and 28, were arrested in the house Kampung Kemunting, Karangan, in Kulim where the shootout occurred and the premises was used for illegal gold smelting, Bernama reported.

Kedah police chief Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said the incident happened at 10.10pm and 10 policemen were involved in the raid at the house.

Najib, the Sultan and UMNO, played a dirty scheme to get the Pakatan Rakyat government in Perak dismissed and brought in the UMNO controlled Barisan Nasional government. Today, Zambry, who for all intends and purpose is Menteri Besar II and six executive councillors have been suspended by the Speaker V.Sivakumar.

So, PR rules again. What is Najib and Sultan going to do.

The best is, allow PR to dissolve the assembly and call for new elections to see what the people want. PR will win with an increased majority, and perhaps BN will be wiped out in Perak.

Perak MB, all 6 excos suspended

Feb 18, 09 6:57pm

The Perak state assembly’s special privileges committee today suspended the state’s newly-minted menteri besar Zambry Abdul Kadir and all his six executive councillors. This means that Pakatan has 28 seats against Barisan Nasional’s 24, and even with the 3 fence sitters will have only 27.

Zambry was slapped with an 18-month suspension while the excos have been suspended for 12 months.
The latest development plunge Perak into another crisis following BN’s seizure of the state government two weeks ago.

Sivakumar, who is still Perak speaker as the BN government has yet to convene the state assembly to replace him with one of their own.

slim majority in perak update 040209By suspending seven of the BN’s 28 state assemblypersons, the numbers have again tilted back to the former Pakatan Rakyat government.

Should the state assembly be reconvened now, it is likely that the seven suspended representatives would not be allowed into assembly, allowing Pakatan to have an edge of 28 seats against BN’s 24.

The suspension means that while BN can technically continue to rule, but it cannot convene a meeting of a state assembly for fear that Pakatan would move a vote of no confidence against the government.

I just can’t fathom why Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the Menteri Besar Selangor, must involve the Sultan Selangor in the scandal of Elizabeth Wong. What is there too difficult for him to decide, to seek the help of the royalty. Has not Anwar said the lady is going on long leave, and her resignation letter will be decided on when she returns from long leave.

In the same breath Khalid castigates, certain elements, out to smear the name of the lady. Knowing the culprit/culprits, , why run to the Sultan. Is he going to confirm to the Sultan, the good conduct of the lady. It is not khalwat, prostitution or anything immoral.

He should be breathing hell fire to have the perpetuators and distributors of the photos brought to bear the brunt of the law rather than running to the Sultan, to expose his weakness in not knowing how to decide a simple case for which Wong has no control over.

Is he toadying up to the Sultan, to avoid the unexpected that happened at Perak.

The lady has enough grace to resign and Khalid, as Menteri Besar should accept or deny the resignation, and give reasons for his decision. He cannot hide behind the Sultan, nullifying the acumen as a Menteri Besar or as an ex CEO of a large firm.

I think Najib should pay more attention to managing the Malaysian economy rather than bringing down state governments; he did it with Perak, now with Elizabeth Wong and the photo scandal, he is shooting for Selangor and maybe then Kedah.

Pakatan rulers must be alerted that this man is dangerous and take precautions.

3.5pc growth no longer realistic, Najib admits

By Shannon Teoh

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 – Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today admitted that the government’s projected 3.5 per cent economic growth for 2009 would have to be reviewed, given the growing economic uncertainty.

Najib, who is also deputy prime minister, answered a whopping 15 questions simultaneously on steps that the government was taking to address the economic crisis in Parliament today, reflecting concerns over whether Malaysia would fall into negative growth that has already blighted other economies such as the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Singapore.

He said that despite taking into account the RM7 billion stimulus package that was announced on Nov 4 last year, “the projected 3.5 per cent growth no longer reflects the current status of the economy.”

A corruption report has been made against MIC President Samy Vellu by a former MIC youth leader.

Among the allegations are:

  • Giving 3 contracts to companies close to him in building the AIMST university
  • These 3 companies are controlled by Samy Vellu’s friends and cronies
  • MIC branches paid RM110,000 for the University, which resulted in RM25 million and RM100 from contractors and individuals. Government gave RM300 million, from Bank Pembangunan RM220 million – a total of RM645 million
  • It is alleged that there exists possibilities the prices could be marked up with Samy being the benefactor.

The origin goes back to Samy Vellu instructing MIED, the education arm, to revoke 2 contracts given out by open tender system and reassign them to Samy Vellu’s friends. Party Treasurer Mahalingam had to back his bags as Chairperson, as well as P.Chitthirakala Vasu being asked to resign. This woman wants to fight Samy until the truth is known.

Chitthira was a close associate of Samy and at one time written a book on Sam trumpeting his leadership and humanistic qualities.

She is now in the receiving end, having received a show cause letter from Samy. She maintains that everything she did was on the instructions of Samy Vellu. Sothinathan has also reported some files are missing. I wonder what these files are.

Has this woman have enough evidence to damage Samy Vellu, it is now speculation time.

The anchor woman who brought down a government in Perak, Hee Yit Foong, is hated by the Perakians and all Malaysians.

I was in Ipoh during the week end and was surprised at the Police presence in Ipoh, Police everywhere, in main roads and roads leading to housing estates. My car was held up in a massive jam for about 45 minutes because of Police road blocks just before the Jelapang exit. I am told this is an ongoing agony for Ipoh people.

I think the BN is only angering the people more, and it does does not auger well to build up trust on the ruling party. A 1600 strong crowd, donations of over RM4000, for a gathering in Jelapang denotes the support for the opposition.

This what Malaysia Today says Hee Yit Foong was paid RM15 million.

Even Hee Yit Fong, the State Assemblywoman who had been with DAP for 20 years, crossed over for money. She has thus far received RM15 million from Vincent Tan of Berjaya fame. She will probably be paid another RM10 million once the dust settles. It seems she needed the money to bail out her husband who was heavily in debt. This was the same situation with Lee Lam Thye who was forced to leave DAP so that he could bail out his wife from her gambling debts. Barisan Nasional, of course, helped settle all his wife’s debts once he ‘abandoned his cause’ and turned pro-establishment.

Jelapang folk still furious with Hee

Lee Way Loon | Feb 14, 09 12:12pm

Arguably the most hated woman in Malaysia at the moment, Hee Yit Foong was again the main target of public resentment. This time at a ceramah in her constituency of Jelapang on Thursday night.

pkr perak ceramah 110209 crowd.jpgThe 1600-strong crowd at Pakatan Rakyat’s 11th ceramah addressing the Perak political crisis responded emotionally when Pakatan leaders criticised Hee for her defection.
When ousted exco Nga Kor Ming asked the crowd whether they thought Hee should resign, almost every one in attendance raised their hands to say yes.
Nga and ousted Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin also apologised to the crowds for Hee’s defection.
The ceramah is widely seen as a strategy by DAP to whip up public sentiment against Hee after she claimed that she quit the party because she was marginalised.
Judging from the crowds’ response and the RM4,106 in donations collected during the ceramah, it seems the strategy paid off.
Although police have banned political ceramah in the state, Pakatan had managed to obtain a permit for the ceramah in Jelapang on Thursday night.
Chee: She is ‘rubbish’
Among the DAP assemblypersons invited to speak were Keranji assemblyperson Chen Fook Chye and Buntong assemblyperson A Sivasubramaniam.
Chen, who was previously close to Hee, poured scorn on his former friend, going as far as to call her “rubbish”. He added that instead of admitting her wrong move in defecting, Hee had tried to blame the state party leadership for her move.
hee yit foong interview 010209 02Chen ended his fiery speech by shouting, “I want to kick this rubbish away!”, prompting the crowd to join him in blasting Hee.
The final speaker of the night, Nizar, stressed that he was still the menteri besar and slammed Barisan Nasional for using “dirty tricks” to topple the Pakatan-led state government.
He also urged voters to vote against BN in the upcoming Bukit Gantang by-election to send a message of no-confidence to the new government.
Thursday’s ceramah is a clear indication that instead of abating with time, public anger and resentment for Hee is only increasing and judging from the crowd response, it would be safe to say that the BN-friendly independent should stay well away from her constituency, indeed Perak, for some time to come.

MIC is asking for the Bukit Selambau seat in Kedah and hopes to field V.Saravanan as their candidate. This chap was the MIC representative for Bukit Selambau seat in 2004 and was dropped in the 2008 elections and another S.Krishnan was selected, who lost to V.Arumugam of PKR who is still missing in action. Some say he is with his second wife in India.

Of course V.Saravanan is all excited about his re-birth after being discarded by Samy Vellu. He says MIC lost in the last elections because people had deserted Barisan Nasional. Of course, the reason was the Malays going against UMNO, MCA had lost the Chinese voters and the Indians were angry with Samy Vellu. Saravanan also adds during his time as assemblyperson, he said MIC had helped to build three Tamil schools, upgrade basic infrastructure, amenities and facilities in the constituency. So, with the good done by Saravanan, Samy dumped him and the people dumped S.Krishnan.

As I see it, if Najib agrees to MIC getting this seal, then, it may hasten the demise of MIC and Samy Vellu, and this may spell good for the Indians.

This is from G.Krishnan in his blog Imagine, a very appropriate scenery of MIC as it is today.

The general feeling of the people is that the Sultan of Perak, was hasty in his decision, and ousted a legitimate government, voted by the people. The way it was done arouses the suspicion that a new government should  take over, was apparently decided by Najib and the Sultan became a victim and a perpetrator of a diabolical plan. The people are annoyed at the Sultan as about 88 percent indicated their displeasure, but Najib hides behind the Sultan by saying the royalty decided.

The Sultan is human and fraught to make mistakes. The only set back is one has got to go to court to prove whether the Sultan was right or not, and if it should happen, it will take ages for the verdict and meanwhile an illegal government will be ruling Perak.

Poll: 88% disagree with the Sultan

Poll: 88% disagree with the Sultan

From the various protests and huge outcry over what many have called an undemocratic ousting of a legitimate state government, it would be safe to assume that a majority of Malaysians are unhappy over what has been going on in Perak.

A survey conducted by Malaysiakini saw an overwhelming majority of readers disagreeing with Sultan Azlan Shah’s decision in the transfer of power in the silver state.

A total of 34,617 out of 39,411 readers, or 87.8 percent said they were against the sultan’s decision in the four-day survey which ended yesterday.

Last Thursday, the sultan rejected the Pakatan Rakyat state government’s request to dissolve the state assembly in view of defections by several of its state representatives.

The sultan, a former lord president, also asked Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin to resign as menteri besar, which the latter refused.

However, 3,862 (9.8 percent) survey respondents said they agreed with the sultan’s decision while 932 readers (2.4 percent) answered “Don’t know”.

In an attempt to address the problem of the state BN being dominated by
representatives from only the Malays as Umno holds 27 of the 28 seats,
Zambry has appointed special advisors with executive council status.

Datuk
S. Veerasingam will be his advisor for Indian affairs while Datuk Chang
Ko Youn will be Chinese advisor. Kapten Datuk Haji Mohd Najmuddin Elias
Al-Hafiz, another advisor, will assist him on religious matters.

Reminds me of Advisers during the time of the British, before independence. Even elected representatives of MCA,MIC and Gerakan could not do much under Barisan Nasional. What use are the advisers – window dressing.

Zambry feels strain of defending BN government

Datuk Zambry Abdul Kadir started his first day as menteri besar today defending the legitimacy of his government by arguing that a majority in Perak backed the Barisan Nasional, and engaging in a rant against journalists.

It was clear, as he snapped at awkward questions from reporters at his first press conference, that he has been feeling the strain of defending what has been an obviously unpopular and possibly unconstitutional takeover of the state from Pakatan Rakyat.

Zambry was sworn-in last Friday by Sultan Azlan Shah at the Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar while riot police outside quelled a protest by thousands of people.

Earlier last week, Sultan Azlan Shah had denied consent to Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin as the menteri besar to dissolve the state assembly.

Instead the Ruler dismissed Nizar, and questions have now arisen over whether a Ruler who is only a constitutional monarch has such powers. Nizar, who has refused to resign, maintains he is still the MB.

The Sultan has come under heavy criticisms for appearing to side with BN. He has even had to cancel public appearances as part of his silver jubilee celebrations because of security concerns.

When asked today if he thought he has the support of a majority of the public in Perak, Zambry said: “That is why we are here.”

When it was pointed out that he did not gain his position as menteri besar via an election, he grew visibly defensive and snapped back: “What do you mean? This is a democratic process.

“Do you understand democracy? I am asking you, do you understand the political philosophy of democracy?

“I am asking you back. Why are you not asking them (Pakatan Rakyat) back when they are talking about the party hopping?

“When they triggered everything right from the very beginning. You should ask yourself about that.”

When it was clarified that the question was not about defections but whether he feels he has the support of the majority of Perakians, he finally replied: “God willing, when you prove to the people your worth.

“Do not talk about democracy process if you do not understand democracy.

“This is the true democratic process.”

Then, before another reporter could finish her question on Jelapang state representative Hee Yit Fong, he cut in and told her: “You like to delve into all kinds of speculative things.”

When the reporter finally got to complete her question and ask whether he feels Hee can perform her duties effectively as state representative given the widespread unhappiness expressed by residents in Jelapang and whether Zambry can guarantee her safety, he replied: “This is our responsibility. People need to respect Hee’s right to live.

“Where else to live? Please preserve the peace we have in this country regardless of differences.”

Earlier, he arrived in a Proton Perdana and waved at the large crowd of media members at about 10am, and was trailed by his executive council members in various other vehicles.

In an attempt to address the problem of the state BN being dominated by representatives from only the Malays as Umno holds 27 of the 28 seats, Zambry has appointed special advisors with executive council status.

Datuk S. Veerasingam will be his advisor for Indian affairs while Datuk Chang Ko Youn will be Chinese advisor. Kapten Datuk Haji Mohd Najmuddin Elias Al-Hafiz, another advisor, will assist him on religious matters.

On the upcoming by-elections, he said that BN will be ready.

When asked whether he will continue the previous state government’s policies, he said: “What is most important is not whether it is your policy or my policy but what is best for the rakyat.”

When asked whether he is going to convene a special sitting of the state assembly, he answered that the “assembly will have to meet every six months.” He also said that it is Pakatan Rakyat’s right to file a lawsuit and seek legal redress. He also revealed that he has not appointed a speaker yet.

On the fact that there are only six state executive council members instead of the usual 10, he said: “It is convention to have 10 but based on regulations, we can elect less than that based on our needs.” He said that he will revisit the number of executive council members from time to time.

Zambry also said that “there is no time for celebrations” and that “my intention is to serve all.

Pop singer Rihanna can be heard ’screaming’ in the background of the 911 call made to police the night she was allegedly beaten by boyfriend Chris Brown.

The news comes after it was revealed the singer has cancelled a scheduled concert in Malaysia and a lavish 21st birthday party in New York which had been planned for February 20.

Police are currently refusing to release the 911 audio tape to the media.

But LAPD chief investigator Detective Deshon Andrews has confirmed: ‘It mostly recorded the sound of a screaming woman.’
