Fuel subsidy would have cost gov’t RM30 bil

This relates to the fuel-hike debate tomorrow, between Anwar Ibrahim and Information Minister Shabery Cheek. Lim Guan Eng puts it nicely “it is going to be a dialogue rather the usual monologue”.

The Education Minister Hishammuddin says it is a “process of openness and he has total faith in Shabery” But at the same time he says, he is sceptical whether the public will be enlightened, Anwar will politise the debate and whether the public can be educated.

I think the Government has a phobia and sooner they get out of it the better. This same Anwar factor caused all the road blocks from Friday last not only in Kuala Lumpur but also in Seremban where I was during the week end.

Hisham need not fear. He should have debated with Anwar. If something else is doing it, is it not stupid for him to comment and make all the listeners as morons who can’t understand and are hero worshipping Anwar to swallow everything he says. Come on Hisham grow up.

Umno-PAS talks: PM gives green light

Badawi has given his blessings for discussions to be held by PAS and UMNO on issues concerning Malays and Islam. He gave the impression that there were many conflicts over Malays and Islam and with the discussions such issues can be solved. He also added that the whatever done for the good of the Malays must take into consideration the other races.

The Malays have no problem with PAS. If at all, the religious fervour of this party irks the Muslim populace. The latest on lipstick and high heels is a good example. If UMNO gangs up with PAS, I fear the implication will be seriously felt by all Malays not under PAS control. Caution must be exercised.

For the non-Muslims, PAS can’t coerce them, but with this type of an alliance, where MCA, MIC are involved, will they be playing second fiddle to PAS. I wonder.

The Prime Minister says it is in order to hold rallies in stadiums. I hope this decision will not be a flip flop tomorrow.

He feels that, in anticipation of a public demonstration, the road blocks were necessary. secondly rallies cause traffic congestion, and he is concerned about business people doing their business.

But Malaysiakini has a different story that the road blocks were for fear of Anwar Ibrahim.

Please Sir, let the people know the truth.

Traffic jams: PM defends the police
By JANE RITIKOS

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has defended the police for setting up road blocks around the city in anticipation of a public demonstration, causing massive traffic jams Monday.

The Prime Minister instead blamed the traffic jams to those who planned to hold demonstrations and said the police were only doing their job in maintaining order and public safety.

“The police are trying to reduce hindrances and reduce traffic jams (that would be caused by the demonstration) too,” he said, adding that businesses and shops affected by demonstrations held inside the city expected the police to ensure disturbances were kept at bay.

“But at the same time the demonstrators say police have no business disturbing them. The police have a responsibility in ensuring there is no trouble and all is safe for the public,” he said.

Abdullah reminded the demonstrators that he had advised them to hold their rallies at stadiums where “they can scream at the top of their voice and “not at these places (in the streets) because people have the right to go about their business in peace

Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you that some action is being taken to apprehend two important Immigration officers. This may be the tip of the iceberg. If the bosses are involved, do you think the subordinates are beyond suspicion. The Immigration depots in this country must be a hive of corruption where every transaction means money. It is suggested an exercise be carried out to weed out Immigration personal living beyond their means.

I think your confidence, big fish won’t be left out, is a bit premature. It is just the beginning. The people can only agree with your confidence, if there is a conviction. Jamaluddin Jarjis has not been charged yet.

Finally, these blokes have undermined the security of this country – a grave crime. Are you going to throw the books at them and put them in under ISA. Would you?

PETALING JAYA: The detention of two top Immigration Department officers by the Anti-Corruption Agency in investigations into allegation of bribery in the issuance of visas to foreign workers if proof that even big fish will not be let off the hook, the Prime Minister said.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that the public was shocked by the detention of the top officers as if it was unusual.

“So they perceive that big guns cannot be arrested and that is why they are shocked? All this while the authorities act on “big or small” people, whether they hold posts or not.

“As long as there is misconduct, the ACA will investigate. If they obtain information that ties the accused to the crime they will surely charge them, ” he said after opening the National Summit on Urban Poor and Low Income Groups.

On whether the alleged offence threatened national security, Abdullah said the probe might involve massive work as the ACA would need to identify those involved and the extent of the problem which included training those who had been issued the documents through the illegal means.

He said the alleged offence had caused an undesirable situation.

No-confidence motion rejected, opposition stages walkout

The no confidence motion against Badawi was rejected by the speaker. Malaysians are going through a bad patch, in the 51st of their existence in this country. Look around, we have a premier who is weak and indecisive, not knowing to where he is leading the country, a deputy who people are afraid of because of his unsavoury past, oil prices up, food prices going up steadily, scandal after scandal, economy not doing well, Anwar lately said, in two months time, all small and medium sized business ventures would fail, Badawi assuring the people with empty talk everything is good.

The people have had enough. They want changes. Amin with his mulia tag, is neither mulia or close to it. Meekly he refers to the action of Shahrir who raised the question of oil prices, and a vote was taken with the Government scoring a majority. There was no question of a motion of no confidence by Shahrir, the vote taken taken was not for the Premier but just oil prices as part of the inefficiency of Badawi.

If today’s motion had been debated, and a vote taken, Barison Nasional will still win, being in the majority, but the opposition can bring out issues, where the country is being led to.

But the speaker who is nothing but an extension to the Umnoputras, refuses to allow the motion. He and his two other assistants will frustrate any move by the opposition to undo wrong by the present government and the hands of the people are tied.

What democracy is this.

Later, Amin stated in a different statement:

According to him, the opposition had filed their emergency motion for a
resolution under Standing Orders 18 but that standing order only allows
for debates.

“It is not the proper standing order. SO 18(1) and
(2) does not allow for vote of no-confidence to be carried out. It is
like a person who had committed raped but was charged for murder. You
cannot do that,” he said.

He explained that the emergency motion requesting for a resolution which leads to voting should be filed under SO 27.

Pandikar
Amin also said that the debate on the security and leadership has
already been discussed on June 23 during Shahrir’s emergency motion
debate on the fuel price hike and the mid-term review of the 9th
Malaysian Plan.

“If I had allowed the motion, I will be seen as
the most stupid Speaker in the world for allowing a motion filed under
the wrong SO to be debated.

“I will not allow them to drag the
Speaker into their politics. I will let the people decide whether they
were right to walk out and whether I was right in rejecting their
motion,” he said.

The fact he is undecided, is a clear indication of his intelligence, and the world can decide on his stupidity.
