Four arrested in Cheras demo

Whatever you may say of our Police the guardians of law, they excel in using the water canon and assault of demonstrators. Forget about not apprehending criminals, they are here to help out Grand Saga to increase their profits. Thank you Police.

KAJANG: Four people were picked up after they demonstrated at Bandar Mahkota, Cheras, due to road works being carried out at a traffic light junction leading to the area.

The demonstration which saw about 1,000 people, mostly residents from the nearby areas, gathering from 4pm to stop the work conducted by workers.

The protesting crowd played a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities until 10.30pm when the situation worsened.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng pulled the plug of a generator before standing in front of a water cannon to prevent the police from aiming it at the crowd.

During the ensuing commotion, Lim was said to have been assaulted .

It is learnt that Lim was rushed to the Kajang Hospital by Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Ean Yong Hean Wah and a friend.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Shakaruddin Che Mood said police resorted to firing the water cannons several times to ward off the protestors who were riding motorcycles and speeding towards the police barricades.

He said there were more than 100 policemen including personnel from the Light Strike Force and the Federal Reserve Unit at the scene.

The four arrested, aged between 20 and 30, were taken to the Kajang police station for questioning.

On Wednesday, a large group of residents from Bandar Mahkota and Sungai Long in Kajang gathered to protest against the closure of a road that leads to both housing areas.

The residents claimed that the action of the Cheras-Kajang Highway concessionaire, Grand Saga, to place concrete barriers at the road greatly inconvenienced them.

The closure of the road meant that residents had to pay toll and take a longer route to get to their homes.

Residents had demolished the barriers on April 21, two years after they were put up by Grand Saga, which has maintained that it had right of way over the road.

Bernas blames private commercial millers for rice shortage

Bernas managing director Bakry Hamzah is a gem among our administrators. His knowledge of the blame game is excellant. Not Bernas but millers he moans. What could he do. The millers must be clairvoyants having the uncanny fore-sight to anticipate the rice shortage, and planned lesser production. I wonder if they grow rice or make rice. The process is long from planting to harvesting, and Bakry must tell this excuse to the marines.
What about cutting imports, by 40%, Bakry is still getting his figures. The next press statement will reveal all.

.

KUALA LUMPUR: Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) has blamed private commercial millers for the recent rice shortage in the local market.

Bernas managing director Bakry Hamzah said private millers who controlled 55% of the local rice market had significantly reduced their production in expectation that prices would rise.

“This move has put pressure on Bernas to meet nearly 100% of the country’s needs following the artificial shortage,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Bernas was not the cause of the shortage but had to strive to enhance production by importing more in the past four months to meet people’s needs, he said.

“Bernas would like to stress that despite the sharp increase in the price of rice in the global market, the company has not raised the price of imported rice to the wholesalers since April 2007,” he said.

On Monday, a newspaper reported that Bernas had cut imports by nearly 40% in the past four months due to price increases in the international market.

The report said Bernas had imported about 300,000 tonnes of rice since January while the ideal level was at least 500,000 tonnes to meet demand.

Bakry said that while the price of rice in the world market had increased three-fold and saw neighbouring countries facing a supply shortage crisis, Bernas was still able to secure enough imports. – Bernama

My Voice :: COMPLAINT AGAINST RESTAURANT HAJI YAHYA :: May :: 2008

MBI Ipoh is so user friendly. Their only concern is for the people of the city. You want a restaurant for your eating pleasure, we have allowed Haji Yahaya to built one in the middle of the road. The chaps who complain about are jealous, jealous Haji Yahaya is doing well. Next, you want a public toilet, what, come again, near the Town Hall, no problem, we are arranging with Haji Ibrahim, the younger brother of Haji Yahaya, to operate the toilet. Good earnings you know.

MBI believes in ‘menghasilkan mutu kehidupan yang lebih selesa dan seimbang serta meninggikan taraf hidup bagi semua penduduk dalam kawasan Majlis’ Haji Tan is next now. He wants to open up a satay stall, at the front of the Datuk Bandar’s house. This is going too far, what impression will the people get when visiting his house. This is a definite no.

COMPLAINT AGAINST RESTAURANT HAJI YAHYA

For the past 6 months the tax payers of Ipoh city raised many complaints against the Restaurant Haji Yahya which is situated in middle of Ipoh City. The complaint was raised many times to Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh and no actions were taken.

The restaurant owner builds the restaurant on top of the walk a way which constructed for public conveniences was utilized by the restaurant owner. The restaurant owner extended the restaurant without the approval from the city planning unit.

Public decided to put it off, hoping things would get better but till do no reply letter received from the MBI and the restaurant yet to receive enforcement department visit.

The public feels that, since the restaurant has started the operation on top of the walk a way never bothers about the safety of the customers and others. Examples of which the public refer as follows: customers will park the car at the road shoulder which is on top of yellow lane to buy or to have breakfast and this will cause traffic congestion in the morning of in the peak hours. The food supplied will not be a healthy enough because the restaurant located at the road side and it’s an open concept restaurant.

This issue also was raised to the attention of NGO and the concern NGO already send the letter to the Datuk Bandar’s Office asking for and explanation. At the same time I also received the complaint in my political office advising me to take action against the restaurant.

I am considering what I should do about this complaint because the location of the restaurant comes under my constituency. I’m sure some people would like to rise and wants to clear the doubt over MBI administration for having double standard in giving approval for restaurant at road side. I believe we will just think this situation thoroughly through and then decide.
