Badawi’s Belated Action On Religion And Conversion

The boss of Islam Hadhari was a bit too late in making this decision. He had all the opportunities to make statements, correct things when body snatching was at its height. The mullah Napoleons were there bringing misery to the families that were affected, remember the pictures of widows seeing their husbands not given a decent burial because of the dictates of religious officers, their concern that they were not doing their obligations to bury the husbands the way they had buried their family members. Where was Badawi then.

I don’t believe in people cursing and that curse taking effect. But seeing all the atrocities that were committed by the religious officials I wonder if this was the part that drove the people to bring in Pakatan Rakyat.

If Badawi was a effective leader, he would have thought of the misery suffered by families, and the least make some statements to alleviate the fear the country was going towards being an Islamic state when there are other religions involved. He failed to do so.

I see UMNO Johor asked him to take leave so Najib can lead, and Malaysiakini reports that they want Najib to lead.

So Prime Minister, with your talk of big ears and a PM for all, you demurred when religious issues were involved, but now trying to make up for lost time, making decisions on religious issues. Is it a bit too late.

Gov’t to act on Islamic conversion rows

Apr 10, 08 5:41pm

The government today proposed new rules on converting to Islam, in a bid to prevent wrangles that have split families and incited racial tensions in this multicultural country.

“We are working on a law that non-Muslims who are converting to Islam must inform their spouse and family,” Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said after meeting Islamic religious authorities.

“They will have to fill out a form and declare that they have informed their family of the pending conversion,” he said.

The move follows a series of allegations of “body-snatching” by Islamic authorities, who have seized remains for burial according to Muslim rites, against the objections of non-Muslim family members.

The proposals are an olive branch to Malaysia’s minority ethnic Chinese and Indians who are uneasy over rising “Islamisation” and have turned away from the government, which is dominated by Muslim Malays.

The coalition government’s mis-handling of race issues is credited as one of the factors behind its drubbing in March 8 elections, when it lost a third of parliamentary seats and five states in its worst-ever results.

Clash between religions

Abdullah said there had been many cases where non-Muslims had converted to Islam quietly without informing their families.

“This has resulted in a clash between religions when the person dies and the Islamic authorities try to claim the body but are opposed by family members who were not informed of the conversion,” he said.

“This has caused much ill-will among the various religions.”

In the most recent case, an elderly ethnic Chinese man was buried as a Muslim in January after his Buddhist family lost a battle with Islamic authorities who said he had converted.

Police seized the body of Gan Eng For after his eldest son - himself a Muslim convert - said he had switched to the religion. Other family members said that was impossible because he was senile and paralysed from strokes.

In many instances the rows have been decided by Islamic syariah courts, where non-Muslim family members argue they do not get a fair hearing.

Baby born in India with two faces? « The Alexander Times

Good morning. Seriously, there was a baby born in a small village in India with two faces. Four eyes, two noses, two mouths, and a ton of hair. Apparently, according to the family and others, the baby is fine and just like any other baby. When I read this, I said to myself, “Oh thats great, at least she is healthy. But just like any other baby? She has two faces!” As of now, she is still fine and being worshipped as the reincarnation of a hindu goddess.

This child has a rare case of craniofacial duplication; one head, two faces. A quote from her father stated, “She drinks milk from her two mouths and opens and shuts all the four eyes at one time.” Could you imagine seeing this?! I find it amazing that in India, this child is so excepted.

Why Did MIC Lose In The Elections

MIC Youth, Wanita to form own branches

UMNO is very busy trying to find reasons why they lost the elections. Badawi says the party was sabotaged by their own members, Najib says it is hear say. Some say the kitchen cabinet led by Khairy caused them dearly, some say fourth floor boys, some say ineffectual leadership of Badawi, the list is endless; what caused the tsunami.

MCA tries to pin point the issue, the Ong dynasty is blamed, the latest being the spy theory by Donald Lim, in Malaysiakini who says Chua Soh Leik was also a victim.

Gerakan is quiet, I suppose the reason they lost is because the people were fed up with the party.

PPP Kayveas, had the least problem identifying the reason, he lost and thats it. He is not popular and it has got nothing to do with the aspirations the party set to serve the people.

Now, why did MIC fail. The main culprit everybody is quick to admit, is because of Samy Vellu. He had a big mouth, he boasted and was cocky the Indians wont displace him or MIC. Coupled to this is the hatred of the people that Samy had not done much for the people and that he is monopolising MIC as his serfdom. Others talk about Maika, Telecom shares, temples, his cronies, Vel Paari, and Hindraf. Anybody following the political scene will say Hindraf was the cause followed up by the arrogance of Samy.

But till today, I have not seen Samy explaining the reason for the failure. Ditto for his MIC members, they may grumple, but nothing comes out as the leader will shut them up for good. This can only happen in MIC. What is the point in restructuring the party, creating Youth and Wanita wings, and whatever other measures that comes to the mind of Samy. The cancer or the reason for defeat is still there, and if not cured, MIC will remain sick.

We see Dr Denison Jayasooria, the executive director of the party’s social wing - Yayasan Strategik Social, leaving the sinking ship, with the simple reason he is going to do church work; I am sure he could have done both jobs simultaneously, but to escape from the clutches of Samy he used this reason. It is hard to say whether others will follow. The fact that no other leader besides Samy is making the noise, makes me wonder if they had lost their voices. While in power they were dumb, behaved like imbeciles, and must they continue to give credence to the universal thoughts of Indians that they are very talkative and articulate as only an Indian can do, but with Samy around they are like puppies whimpering for anything that is dished out by Samy. Come on fellows show how much you are worth. At least for the next 4 or 5 years you will be hibernating from political activities, speak now or don’t speak for ever.

Samy is wishing those who won to enjoy the victories - is this grapes gone sour, surely they will enjoy, even without Samy mentioning it. Samy oh Samy.

In passing, at least for record sake, will Samy say why MIC lost.

MIC Youth, Wanita to form own branches

Apr 10, 08 3:18pm

MIC will allow its Youth and Wanita wings to form their own branches as part of the party’s restructuring exercise.

Announcing this today, party president S Samy Vellu said each branch would operate as a separate entity, provided it had 50 or more members.

samy vellu and mic“We have received numerous complaints from Youth and Wanita grassroots leaders that branch leaders were hampering their work.

“Some decided to leave the party because of the ‘red tape’ created by some branch leaders. So to avoid this, we have decided to allow Youth and Wanita to form their own branches, provided they have 50 or more members.

“Despite the branch status, they would still be governed by the Youth and Wanita wings. We don’t need a constitutional amendment for this. The Youth and Wanita (wings) will still have their annual general assemblies. This change is to allow them to operate independently,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

At present, MIC has about 3,700 branches nationwide and with the latest move, it is expected to have more branches.

However, Samy Vellu said that the number of divisions would remain at 150 nationwide.

YSS chief quits

In another development, the MIC president confirmed the resignation of Dr Denison Jayasooria, the executive director of the party’s social wing - Yayasan Strategik Social.

denison jayasooria“Everyone is looking for a better position. He said he wants to do new things and concentrate on church work. Yes, he has given his resignation but we have yet to decide whether to accept it,” said Samy Vellu.

To a question, the MIC president said Denison was neither a MIC member nor a politician but was “just a MIC staff”.

“The party did not want him to get involved in active politics as he was employed to do research and assist (the party) in policy-making decisions.”

Meanwhile, Samy Vellu said MIC candidates who lost their respective seats at the recent general election were unlikely to file election petitions to overturn the election results in their respective constituencies.

At the polls, MIC contested nine parliamentary and 19 state seats under the Barisan Nasional banner, winning only three parliamentary and seven state constituencies.

The party lost one parliamentary and two state seats with a narrow margin. It lost the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary seat after MIC deputy president G. Palanivel was beaten by PKR’s Zainal Abidin Ahmad with a slim 198 vote majority.

The party candidate for the Bukit Melawati state seat in Selangor, K Partiban lost to M Mutiah also from PKR, with a 297 vote majority, while for the Port Dickson state seat in Negeri Sembilan, T Rajagopalu lost to PKR’s M. Ravi with a 733 vote difference.

“Except for Hulu Selangor, I don’t think we can argue. All those who won can enjoy their victories. I don’t think we would go for election petitions,” noted Samy Vellu.

Buses Of One Company Involved In Many Road Crashes - Noh

This Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar is a numpty meaning embarrassing himself. What is the secret of not naming the bus company, at least the people will know, and may not patronise the services to ensure the drivers are more careful. Does he want more deaths before his conscience hurts. Common-lah Nor enough of your statistics, go down to the ground, check yourself how bus drivers flaunt all traffic rules, and you will be doing a good job.

Buses Of One Company Involved In Many Road Crashes - Noh

PUTRAJAYA, April 9 (Bernama) — The licence of the bus company involved in the fatal crash at the Seremban toll plaza Tuesday has yet to be suspended despite having a poor safety record.
Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said this was because the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) had yet to investigate three accidents involving the company as its representatives did not attend the inquiries or they were postponed.
“Under the CVLB Act 1987, we can only suspend the operating licence after an investigation has been conducted,” he told reporters at his office here Wednesday.
To overcome this, CVLB would be meeting in a fortnight to empower the minister to temporarily suspend the licence of public transport companies involved in crashes which caused death and injury until the investigation was completed.
Noh said the minister would also be empowered to suspend the licence of public transport companies having lots of traffic summonses and that warrants of arrest would be issued to the drivers.
“What is the benefit of suspending the bus licence after the bus is all smashed up and people have been killed,” he added.
The three road accidents which involved the same company were the one at the Sungkai toll plaza on Dec 18 which injured 19 people, at KM383.7 North-South highway near Behrang on Jan 25 where three people were killed and at KM396.7 North-South highway on Feb 2 which killed two people.
The bus crash at the Seremban toll plaza Tuesday killed a soldier.
Noh said the company, which operates 227 express buses, had collected 52 traffic summonses. The bus involved in Tuesday’s crash had 18 summonses and two warrants of arrest.
“The 18 summonses and warrants of arrest were issued to several drivers. The driver in Tuesday’s incident had only been working for three months.”
Asked about the planned RM100 million pig farm in Selangor, Noh said the state government should consider the sensitivity of Muslims and should not have it in Sepang but on Pulau Ketam which has a majority non-Muslim population.
“It is a gift from the Selangor government to the people in the state for voting them into office,” he added.

Flogging A Dead Horse

Apple polishers are at it again. Perak UMNO youth chief, Zainol Padzi Paharudin, says Khairi has shown leadership traits, a man of caliber, and a loyal deputy to the Keris carrier. Khairi is in the doldrums, neither here or there, and the majority of UMNO members point a finger at him for the election debacle. In fact the silence he has imposed on himself, is clear proof he is not good as a leader. Hishamuddin had a reputation of being notorious, his keris action is hard to forget. As for Khairy, he is the author of Badawi’s downfall, which I think UMNO will not forget.

No Objection To Khairi Contesting Umno Youth Chief Post - Khir

SHAH ALAM, April 9 (Bernama) — Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said Wednesday he had no objection to Umno Youth vice-chief Khairy Jamaluddin vying for the top post in the movement in December.
“Umno is a democratic party. We can offer ourselves for the post, it’s up to members to choose whom they feel should be given the mandate to rehabilitate the party,” Dr Mohamad Khir told a press conference here Wednesday.
The former Selangor menteri besar was commenting on remarks made by Negeri Sembilan Umno Youth chief Datuk Jamlus Aziz that Khairy was the best candidate to replace Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussien as the movement’s leader.
So far only Dr Mohamad Khir and Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir had annnounced that they would go for the Umno Youth chief post.
Commenting on calls that he should give close attention to Selangor politics rather than contesting the post, Dr Mohamad Khir said the new Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Muhammad Muhamad Taib was entrusted with the responsibility, although he would continue to assist him.
Dr Mohamad Khir said he felt that his experience would put him in good stead to bring the youths closer to the top leadership as there was a big gap between them.
He said more dialogues with the youths should be held to enable them to voice their pent-up feelings.
Claiming that his blog has received 160,000 comments, he said most of them wanted Umno to listen to them with an open heart.
In IPOH, Perak Umno Youth chief Zainol Padzi Paharudin said he agreed with Jamlus that Khairy was the best candidate to lead the movement as he had shown the leadership traits in his present capacity.
Zainol Padzi said Khairy had proven that he was a leader of calibre, and an effective and loyal deputy to Hishammuddin.
“It will be a waste of his talents if it is not nurtured and polished,” he said in a statement Wednesday.
Zainol Padzi said Khairy had proven his capability and leadership ability when he led the Umno election machinery in several by-elections, put his skills to good use in thwarting criticisms and did not cow under pressure.
As Khairy had cultivated rapport with Umno Youth divisions, Zainol Padri said the Umno Youth vice-chief would be able to forge closer relationship with the grassroots.
“Khairy is courageous and ferocious in defending the New Economic Policy and Malay rights in line with Umno Youth principles and struggles,” said Zainol Padzi.
