According to this paper he was nominated to the place of late Datuk Krishnasamy for a state seat, but was dropped at the last minute. Mrs Mageswary took over the place. A picture was included. Samy To Unveil Strategies To Rejuvenate MIC

Sometimes you don’t understand people. To touch the nose one need not circle your hand around the head to do it. For 32 years Samy was given the task of running the MIC and after tsunami of March 8, he should have taken stock of his position and that of MIC. But he insists on riding the dead horse, and whispers words like strategies, rejuvenation, rebranding, words the dead horse does not hear - it is dead. So, we are told that the one day workshop attended by grassroot leaders, will transform MIC, formulate strategies, as if MIC was run without strategies at all. What will the 150 division leaders say, we are sorry we did not do our part, and from Monday our energy will be directed to bring back MIC to a position of excellence. If anything good is to come, Samy Vellu should not be around, and let the 150 leaders speak up. They will tell everybody we lost because of Samy. What a waste of money and time beating a dead horse.

Samy To Unveil Strategies To Rejuvenate MIC

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) — Reeling from a devastating defeat in the recent general elections, the MIC is set to undergo a rebranding through rejuvenation.
Party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu aims to do this when he unveils several strategies at the MIC workshop for divisional leaders here Sunday.
The one-day workshop, dubbed “Rebranding the MIC”, would be attended by 150 divisional leaders to provide an opportunity for grassroot leaders to share their concerns in the post-general election context.
“It will enable divisional leaders to formulate strategies in strengthening the party and winning back Indian support for the party,” Samy Vellu said in a statement Saturday.
The workshop will also see strategies on how the party would operate in opposition-led states namely Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor, and how it would position itself with the Barisan Nasional, as the voice of the Indian community.
At the recently-concluded general election, MIC only won three of nine parliamentary seats it contested.
Among the casualties were Samy Vellu, party deputy president, Datuk G. Palanivel, vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan, Wanita chief Datuk Paduka Komala Krishnamoorthy and Youth head S. A. Vigneswaran.
Among those who managed to withstand the March 8 ‘political tsunami’ were MIC secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, who is also Human Resources Minister, information chief Datuk M. Saravanan who is Federal Territories deputy minister, and S. K. Devamany, deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

What Rais Says And What He does Not Perceive Or Pretends Not To Know

This is the Bernama report below. Rais has made a numpty statement as a Foreign Minister and I hope it is the last. From the years 1949 to 1979, a rough estimate puts the number of Tibetans killed under Chinese occupation as 1.2 million. I think in a case like this Malaysia should have never made a statement at all. So killing is not political, what is this then. Ethnic cleansing to improve the stock of the Tibetan people, I don’t know.

Malaysia Believes Beijing Olympics Should Not Be Politicised

KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) — Malaysia believes the Beijing Olympics should not be politicised and remains confident it will be successfully held in August.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Malaysia was also pleased to note that the Chinese government was able to maintain stability and protect the lives of innocent people in Tibet.
“We are relieved to learn that the situation there is returning back to normal,” he said in a statement here Saturday.
The Tibetan protesters, mostly monks and nuns, began their march early this month on the anniversary of a failed uprising against Chinese rule in Tibet in 1959, which led to the exile of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist leader.
The march is one of several international protests related to Chinese rule in Tibet that are under way before the Summer Olympics in Beijing in August.
Rais said the country believed the Chinese government would undertake action which was in the best interest of its people to ensure safety, security and territorial integrity.
“We also welcome the offer by the Chinese government to talk with the Dalai Lama,” he said.

Who Runs The Health Ministry Or The Blind leading The Blind

Is it Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican or the new Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai? This stupid trend must stop. It is a waste of time for both loons who are involved. This is like children playing games, now I see it and now you don’t. Is Ismail over confident that he has seniority over Liow, and that Liow can be taken for a ride. Surely he could have briefed Liow before making the statement. Can the people take it that any statement from Ismail is bull shit and we have to wait for Liow.
First Ismail says doctors cannot dispense medicine but this will be done by pharmacologists. He has records, for 20 years this issue has been bandied about, and now he feels the time is right to implement. Liow is new in the Ministry, which right thinking person will over ride his boss, without consultation to make an important decision.
Liow just says the statement is wrong. Why? Does he not agree with Ismail? Was Liow not consulted? Did the reporter make a mistake? Why…why…why…
The ultimate is Liow fears Merican, and he does not bring out his name. What is wrong in telling the DG is wrong, will that make the DG lose his pension. Will he be sacked? As a Minister you should have rolled him on the carpet, stamp on him and say look here DG I make the decisions not you. Or is there already bad blood existing between both of you or an identity crisis who runs the health ministry, the DG or the Minister.
This what happens when the civil servants behave out of the ordinary. A State Secretary signs an important bill on behalf of the government when the government is not there. I am here referring to the Water Bill in Selangor. Is the State Secretary still around. I thought he should have been send to pasture, retire him, he has too big a head.
Or are all Ministers and government servants affected by the sleeping sickness of the leader. Hard to say.
Come on Liow say something to dignify your position as Health Minister or let Merican be the Minister.
Doctors to be disallowed from dispensing medicines

By : Annie Freeda Cruez

Soon only pharmacies will dispense medicines while doctors can only prescribe medication.
Soon only pharmacies will dispense medicines while doctors can only prescribe medication.

KUALA LUMPUR: Soon, doctors will not be allowed to dispense medicines. Doctors will only be allowed to prescribe medications but patients will have to get the medicines from pharmacies.

Currently, doctors diagnose the disease, prescribe the medicines and their own clinics dispense them.
For almost 20 years, pharmacists have been fighting for the “return” of their right to dispense medications but had been unsuccessful for various reasons.
A pilot project on the separation of functions between doctors’ clinics and pharmacies will be launched by the Ministry of Health.
It is scheduled to be launched at selected major towns with the ministry closely monitoring the strength and weaknesses of the system before implementing it nationwide.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the ministry was not able to implement this system earlier due to logistics problems, especially the shortage of pharmacists and pharmacies in the country.
“We also have to take into consideration the welfare of patients. If we have the separation, then patients must have easy accessibility to pharmacies to get their prescribed medications,” he told the New Straits Times.
He said the ministry had conducted a detailed study, “Pharmacy and clinic Mapping” on various issues ranging from welfare of patients, facilities available and capability of pharmacies to meet the demand.
“We found that the logistics problem is still an issue and needs to be resolved as we do not want patients to be running around looking for pharmacies with the doctors’ prescriptions,” said Dr Ismail.
Furthermore, he said, the pharmacies should be able to provide quality care.
He said the ministry had been doing the study with various stakeholders, focusing on the spread of community pharmacies or pharmacy outlets in major towns, rural and remote areas.
Some 5,000 registered pharmacists are actively practising in some 1,600 pharmacies nationwide.
In 2004, there were only 3,927 registered pharmacists with about 1,540 retail pharmacies or one for every 16,445 persons.
Dr Ismail said the pilot project would be implemented in major towns based on the study where there were pharmacies near clinics.
“If the pilot project is successful, we will have to look into the existing laws to allow for the separation,” he added.
India, South Korea and Taiwan have implemented the separation. Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society president John Chang Chiew Pheng said the ministry’s move to conduct a pilot project was definitely a positive development which would enhance the level of healthcare delivery.
The separation, he added, would benefit patients as doctors could now focus on their clinical, diagnosing, counselling and prescription, while pharmacists could focus on educating patients on how best to optimise the usage of medicines prescribed.
Furthermore, Chang said, pharmacists could help patients choose between generic and branded drugs based on their financial situation.
“With commitment and determination we can overcome teething problems and patients can understand their medicines,” he added.
He said if the government went ahead with the separation, then more pharmacies could be set up near clinics for easy accessibility to patients.

No decision on docs dispensing medicine

By TEH ENG HOCK

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has denied a report which said doctors would be prevented from dispensing medicine.

Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the article, which was published on the front page of a local English daily on Saturday, was not true.

“We have not made any decision at all. We are conducting a study, but it is only at a preliminary stage,” he said.

The report said a pilot project on the separation of functions between doctors’ clinics and pharmacies would be launched by the Health Ministry.

It also said that the pilot project would be launched at selected major towns, with the ministry closely monitoring the strengths and weaknesses of the system before implementing it nationwide.

Liow said while the Ministry was considering the request by pharmacists, the study had yet to be completed and a pilot project might not even be launched if the findings were not encouraging.

“If we find that people will be affected (negatively), we might not even carry out the pilot project,” he said.

He added that he wanted to meet up with doctors and pharmacists to understand more about the issue.

“But most importantly, at the end of the day, the people must enjoy good medical services,” he said.

Liow was speaking to reporters after visiting the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital on Saturday.

Dispensing Medicine

This scheme cannot be implemented nation wide as most sub-urban areas do not have enough pharmacists

However major towns and cities can have this dispensing be done from pharmacists, as quite a number of pharmacies are around.

One important aspect is this will pharmacists provide branded and generic drugs side by side for patients to decide or generic drugs will be an under counter commodity reserved for friends.

A doctor I know charges high fees and the reason given is the medicine given is the best or what is meant is it is branded.

For a start, can Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican, make it compulsory for all Doctors to give receipts for payment and the itemized receipt must separate consultation and cost of drugs. As it is the smaller clinics around town don’t do it.

Free Water Will Be Abused.

Khalid could have been a good CEO of Guthrie, is it, but it is a different kettle of fish running a state like Selangor. I am still wondering whether his forced payment for foreigners is workable, A bit too fast. As a CEO on the spot decisions are welcome, but not running a state that includs other states and the country. There must be uniformity.Anything free will be misused. Secondly the mechanism to check this will cause more than the saving the consumers will enjoy. Why not go against the Syabas, make sure they don’t overcharge and take them to court if necessary. His action is tantamount to supporting Syabas, as I get the funny feeling, 20 cubic meters free, but the next 21 meter will be what Syabas wants. Khalid are you with the people or Syabas. Toyo made his mistakes, but I hope you don’t.

‘Free water’ effective June 1
The Selangor government will provide 20 cubic metres of free water to households in the state effective June 1 this year.
In a statement today, the Selangor menteri besar’s office said that the decision was made after a study revealed that it is a feasible plan.
khalid ibrahim selangor waterThe state government is deliberating the proper mechanism to implement this policy which has been introduced to reduce the burden of the people, especially those in the lower income group.
“However, the people must not indulge in wastage in order to preserve the state’s water source to ensure long-term supply,” read the statement.
The new policy comes amidst concerns that the water tariffs in Selangor could see a sharp spike following an agreement between the state, federal government and water concessionaire Syabas.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Gov’t rejects calls to release detained state legislator

Syed Hamid  Albar, our new Home Affairs Minister, is in a fix, he cannot decide on the internal affairs of the country, influenced by the fact that, earlier he was the Foreign Minister, and by nature of that job, had to protract that everything is okay, but now, with the new responsibility worries of internal security and public order. The twain don’t mix, meaning telling the world everything is okay, but now worried about security and order. I can’t imagine he appearing on BBC hard talk program, now, even if invited, I doubt he will go.

On Sept 13 he starred in the program Hard Talk hosted by BBC.

Elizabeth Wong in her blog had something to say and there is a link to the recording of Hard Talk. You must have Real Player. Please comment.

Gov’t rejects calls to release detained state legislator

Mar 28, 08 6:17pm

Home Affairs Minister Syed Hamid Albar today rejected opposition calls for the release of an ISA-detained state legislator, citing the need to uphold public security.
“We must react to the country’s internal security and public order,” Syed Hamid was quoted saying by the state Bernama news agency.
The opposition parties last week pressed for five ethnic Indian activists, including lawyer M Manoharan who won a seat in recent elections, to be freed from the Internal Security Act, which allows for indefinite detention without trial.
Manoharan, standing for the DAP, was elected from his detention centre - soundly beating the government incumbent in the Kota Alam Shah state seat in the March 8 general elections.
Syed Hamid said Manoharan will be forced to sit out of the newly formed state assembly when it convenes.
“You definitely can’t be at two places at the same time,” he said.
The five are leaders of rights group Hindraf who were detained last December for organising an unprecedented mass rally claiming discrimination against ethnic Indians.
Police used tear gas, water cannon and baton charges to break up the November protest, which drew at least 8,000 people.
The opposition, which now controls more than a third of parliamentary seats, has said it will seek to repeal the ISA - which dates back to the British colonial era when it was used against communist insurgents.
It is currently being used to hold more than 100 people, including about 80 alleged Islamic militants.

V.K.Lingam’s Legal Expertise Sorely Missed here

This is from blogger Maverick SM. One of the main reasons, why the ruling party failed badly, was wrong advice given to the Prime Minister. Forget Rais with his Doctorate Of Laws thing, he gave wrong advice, I suppose he wanted to support Badawi as his boss. But what about the AG. He as a civil servant cannot play politics, and if he had consented to give an opinion that is wrong, is he not guilty of wrong advice. Will Badawi hold him to task. Correct….Correct….Correct, AG momentarily forgot he is the custodian of law. Poor AG.

Terengganu MB Saga: It’s Constitutional after all!

Pak Lah says it was done in accordance with the Terengganu State Constitution.
Then, it is Constitutional! Terengganu State Constitution is part of the Federal Constitution.

Then, why did he earlier said it was unconstitutional?
The Attorney-General was his legal adviser; didn’t A-G advice him properly? Or AG also don’t understand the Constitution?

And Rais said it is a dead end for MB Datuk Ahmad Said. He was absolutely wrong; for it was the dead end for Idris Jusoh; and Pak Lah was dead wrong; and Rais was deadly blind. Rais had a Doctorate in Laws, didn’t he?
Why can’t the nation of intellectuals and experts advice our PM and ministers correctly? Why don’t they ask and seek Lingham’s wisdom?

I won’t run away says Pak Lah

Saya tidak akan lari, kata Pak Lah

This is what the Malaysiakini Malay version says. UMNO elections will be held in December.

He must be at the lowest ebb saying a thing like this. A Prime Minister? Misfortunes everywhere, the latest his favourite MB Idris is not leading Terengganu, his 4th floor guys are letting him down, his son-in-law makes no comments, Najib is in his own world, he is a lonely man only with Jeanne around. This what happens when you do not do the job.

Saya tidak akan lari, kata Pak Lah

Mar 27, 08 8:02pm
