This is something very important. Basically this is a matter between two parties one not registered but tacking along with PKR and DAP. For the voters, fed up with the Badawi administration, any opposition party will do. Barisan Nasional will win for sure. What enlightened voters want is a strong opposition which will allow for check and balance. Hopefully they don’t want Barisan to gain a 2/3 majority to mess around with the constitution. Hopefully, in parliament, with the increase in opposition candidates, the ruling party which will bulldoze their requirements, will have lot of protests with the increased number of opposition members. The main opposition members are now PAS and DAP but unfortunately, they are outnumbered by the sheer force of the ruling party in terms of numbers. The voice of the government is louder than that of the opposition. Hopefully voters want a change. But what is annoying is the situation in Perak. Sungei Siput is a classical case. Indians can’t stand MIC and Sami Vellu, a defeat for him is symbolic in that all communities must get together a candidate they feel will deliver the goods. Sami in synonymous with the bad state of the Indians in Malaysia. Suffice to say he must go to assuage the Indians of a better future, or if necessary, to be treated as orphans, to look after themselves. No opposition can help the Indians, not because they don’t want to do,but the government is less conscious of the requirement of the Indian, they are told they are in paradise. It will be a Hobson choice for the Indians to support the opposition for they have been cheated by MIC. Besides opposing to have transparency and fair rules the opposition can’t do much. But the good feeling exists, Indians will have someone to raise a timid objection somewhere which MIC never did. Indians are clueless, but they are hoping against hope, they will have someone talking about them. This the DAP has done beautifully but the Indians want more, meaning every nuance of the Indian problems are highlighted. The problem of the Indians is Samy and MIC. For too long the Indians have been hoodwinked by Samy and his gang. Telecom shares, Maika investment, Samy does not leave anything. It is just gimme gimme and the UMNO is told the Indians live in paradise because the Government looks after them. After Hindraf Badawi himself was surprised, what Indians protesting, Samy tells me they are in heaven. Samy and his cohorts never told the government the problems Indians had, and so Badawi thought they are okay. After all a stomach-ache requires pills, but when things are okay why treatment.

Samy is an expert to be in power. With a 3 cornered fight, he may even introduce an independent Malay/Chinese/Indian candidate much liked by the populace. This candidate will collect a few hundred votes but votes have been split. He is threatening he is ready to face an army, which I think he will do, knowing the weakness of the opposition parties. So DAP and PSM think carefully. I am apolitical, I sure want to join maybe DAP, but then undecided. PSM has a better chance with experience and also if their claim is correct, they did better in the last elections, then let it be. Please decide before the Indians become slaves to Samy and MIC again. A defeat for Samy becomes freedom for the Indians from the enslavement of Samy and MIC. Thank you.

‘Arrogant’ DAP forces 3-way fights

Syed Jaymal Zahiid | Feb 15, 08 7:26pm

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is expected to face three-cornered fights in the two seats the unregistered party’s candidates are contesting in Perak.

According to the party’s election director K Segar, this is because DAP has refused to back down.

PSM candidates will be contesting under the PKR banner for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat and the Jalong state seat.

“DAP is unwilling to let go both these seats. The situation looks very much similar to 2004 election where PSM and DAP fought in a three corner contest,” he said in a statement.

‘We did better’

In the last polls, PSM candidates fared better than the DAP candidates in both the seats.

nasir hashimBased on the results, PSM pro-tem national chairperson Dr Nasir Hashim said DAP should withdraw to ensure a straight fight with Barisan Nasional.

“They (DAP) came out third. We beat them and this shows that our party is stronger there.

“Why can’t DAP accept this and let us fight one-on-one with BN,” he said, adding that DAP was just being “arrogant”.

Echoing a similar view, PSM pro-tem secretary general S Arutchelvan was also disappointed.

“We could have won if it was not a three way fight. What a shame,” he said when contacted.

Years of groundwork

The party also feels that PSM candidates have every right to contest in both the seats as their candidates have been “doing years of tremendous groundwork in the area.”

Jalong is a Chinese majority area dominating the constituency by 59 percent and followed by Indians 26.1 percent, Malays 12.4 percent and others 2.4 percent.

Central committee member Dr D Jeyakumar will be PSM’s candidate contesting for both the Jalong seat and Sungai Siput seat, which is held by MIC president S Samy Vellu.

Meanwhile, things appear smooth for PSM in Selangor where the party will contest for two seats under the PKR banner.

Nasir will be vying for the Kota Damansara state seat while Arutchelvan will contest for the Semenyih state seat.

Time to be Saints « BJ Thoughts…

This is from my blogger friend BalaJoe from BJ Thoughts. This is a good picture of what is happening now. Santa Claus everywhere, you ask for it and they give you. Somewhere I read that Muhammad bin Muhammed the 2 Muhammad guy may be a candidate in my area. You remember him. The fellow caught in Australia with lots of money and in court admitted he can’t speak English. This same fellow who married the Sultan’s daughter, under suspicious circumstances, divorced her with RM 6 million dollars. He has been torn to shreds by Raja Petra in Malaysia Today, readers following this blog will know. I remember writing how to deal with candidates whom the voter feels has not carried out his duties and responsibilities in a befitting manner. I suggested voters ask him what he has done to be elected this time. This may not work with the 2 Muhammad who was at one time the Mentri Besar of Selangor. He may show me a list extending from his head to toe. But that is not the point. This chap is a thief thieving people’s money, how do I show displeasure. I can’t shake my head and say, yes you have done something and still don’t vote him. What I have to learn now is a sign language, complete by itself and conveying the meaning as clear as daylight. Nothing vulgar no obscenity. Please help.

The fellow, after a flip-flop has finally decided to dissolve the Parliament and call for election – hardly a joke if you asked me.

Of course, the signs been there on the wall much earlier – the government “fast-tracking” some of the projects & approvals, the “leaders” telling the would-be suckers voters that they only going to be pick the very best, saints and lovable people to run for election, the spinmaster mainstream media having pages after pages of the ruling politicians in opening ceremonies, wise decisions made by the government and the in-fighting within the oppositions.

Anyway, now that the MPs are no longer MPs and most of them are lobbying the party decision makers for a seat, do expect these to be on the “road-show” until the election time:-

Granting of new houses and lands to the people, opening ceremonies of new multi-purpose hall or bridge or playground, “get-to-know” the MP breakfast, lunch & dinner, shouts of tolerance & unity as being the primary aim of political parties, bad-mouthing the oppositions and calling them as cowards, news of lower crime statistics and improved economy data, “veteran” leaders telling that they “need more time” to resolve the issues, appearance of new & young candidates to take over the lead (but still subject to old party doctrines), plenty of “good & confident” predications from the ruling politicians and more…

And for the Indians, MIC is all out to woo the community with new faces, fresh pledges to “bring up the community” and creation of “new” opportunities. And this reminds of the joke posted at 7th Ranger Blog titled “Adam & Eve”:-

There were three guys commenting on Adam and Eve, they were a Chinese, a Malay and an Indian. The Chinese guy said that Adam and Eve must have been Chinese because they look so calm even when a snake is around. The Malays guy not to be left out says that they must have been Malays because they are so good looking.

The Indian guy with full of confidence says that they must definitely have been Malaysian Indians because they have no shelter, no clothes, shared one apple, advised by a snake and are told that they live in Paradise !

At post-Hindraf times, it sounds so familiar – time to be saints.

This is bad for the Indians. Political squabbles are the norm, but it should not lead to the Indians fighting among themselves. This is what MIC and Barisan Nasional wants. The Indian unity momentum is picking up speed like people referring themselves to as Makkal Sakthi. So please don’t fall into the trap. The opponents are watching with eagle’s eyes for a crack and will blow it up to confuse the Indians. Is there a need for an interim committee at the moment and can Thanendran desist action and refuse to comment until after March 8. Waythamoorthy should also refuse to comment and issue statements. All concerned can fight it out whatever issues they have after the elections. All started well and the momentum is at its peak, don’t spoil it by doing something rash. Calm yourself just for 3 weeks. Should anything go wrong, all the good work done, will boomerang back and the whole group who have sacrificed so much will not reap benefit but curses. Br careful. Indians have this notorious weakness to allow emotions to take over rather than thinking clearly and analytically – be an exception.

Leadership crisis in Hindraf

Beh Lih Yi | Feb 15, 08 2:29pm

A leadership crisis has erupted in the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) with its top brass hurling accusations at each other while the movement’s chairperson-in-exile expresses surprise.

Yesterday, the five detained Hindraf leaders denied they had appointed RS Thanendran to take over the reins in their absence.

hindraff isa detainees 141207In a two-page statement, P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganabatirau, R Kenghadharan and T Vasantha Kumar said that they did not place Thanendran in charge.

The five are currently being held under the Internal Security Act (ISA) at the Kamunting detention camp in Perak.

They said Thanendran should not assume the “self-proclaimed acting leadership of Hindraf” and that the statements he has made to the media do not represent the movement.

They also demanded that Thanendran return the funds that have been collected for Hindraf. “He is not to associate or align Hindraf with any political parties,” they stressed.

Thanendran was appointed

The lawyer, who is currently in London, does not believe that his brother would have signed the document.

“Are you sure they have all signed the statement?” he asked when contacted today.

Waythamoorthy said he appointed a 10-member interim committee to run the day- to-day affairs of Hindraf and Thanendran is the movement’s national coordinator.

“I believe this is a ploy by irresponsible individuals to tarnish the image of Thanendran,” he added.

‘Bought over by BN’

vwaishhnnavi letter to abu talib 060208 rs thanendranMeanwhile, Thanendran alleged that four of the five Hindraf leaders under detention have been ‘bought over’ by Barisan Nasional.

“Waythamoorthy is the Hindraf chairperson, who is still alive. He is the right person to speak and they (the Hindraf 5) have no right to speak. They are supporters just like me,” he told Malaysiakini.

He also claimed that Uthayakumar’s signature on the statement was forged.

“There is a split in Hindraf because the four have been bought over by BN to attack Hindraf during the general election to win back Indian votes.

“We have heard rumours that they will be released early,” he said, adding that he has not collected funds on behalf of Hindraf.

This is not the first time that there has been speculations of a split within Hindraf.

Last month, Vasantha was said to have lodged a police report against Uthayakumar while under detention but this was later denied.

The five, four of whom are lawyers, were detained in December shortly after staging a street protest which drew some 30,000 people to the streets.

The police today stopped polls reform group Bersih from holding a press conference in front of Istana Negara and in the process arrested PKR’s Information Chief Tian Chua.
Also arrested was a PAS member Jalaluddin Abdul Manap.
Earlier a delegation of Bersih leaders had submitted a protest note – addressed to the King – with regards to the upcoming elections fixed for March 8.
The Bersih delegation included Tian, Dr Zulkifli Ahmad, Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad, Hatta Ramli and Mat Sabu (all from PAS), and several others.

The police had maintained a close watch on the group and decided to take action as soon as Bersih called for a press conference after submitting their memorandum.

Jalaluddin was arrested after he failed to adhere to a police warning to stop distributing leaflets calling the Election Commission chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman a liar.

The Comedy of Errors is one of William Shakespeare’s early plays, written between 1592 and 1594. This present play written in 2008 is much more juicier, spectacular, newer, more funny, and definitely more readable and easier to understand than the early one by Shakespeare. What is more demeaning, it could be true 100%. Enjoy it.

Folks, Badawi actually forgot the Polls date!

Kawan-kawan, there was much confusion over the PM’s dissolution of Parliament earlier this week. The man is a complete fiasco. Many people, including Star columnist Jocelyn Tan, were wondering why the DPM Najib Tun Razak looked embarrassed and confused while standing beside the PM during the announcement.

We thought he was lying on Tuesday 12 February ‘08 when he said, ‘No I will not be calling for the polls tomorrow 13 February’. Of course when he did announce the polls on the 13th he once again looked like a total idiot. This dude is totally unaware of his surroundings. Sources say that he was not lying. He was actually telling the truth, in his own way.

The story is like this. The YDP Agong was supposed to travel to the United Arab Emirates on 13th February 2008. So Badawi had no plans to get the King’s consent on the 13th to dissolve Parliament. But he forgot that he would be meeting the Agong on Wednesday morning anyway, for the pre-Cabinet brief. The Agong was leaving for the UAE only later in the day. The S-I-L Khairy then reminded him to get the King’s consent for the dissolution of Parliament. It was only after this reminder that Badawi brought the matter to the King.

Hence the dissolution of Parliament.

This is why RTM again could not provide the live telecast of the PM’s announcement. The PM simply forgot to inform his Minister of Information to get ready. RTM reporters say that they were only told to go to the PM’s office late Wednesday morning for a Press Conference, but NO ONE knew what it was about. The crew reached the PM’s office without live telecast equipment. Only TV3 came better prepared.

Hence, except for TV3, there was no live telecast of the dissolution of Parliament by RTM. Again, Dato Zam’s RTM has bungled the live telecast. Four years ago, RTM bungled the ‘PM’s first 100 days in office’. TV3 beat them to it too.

Badawi is so very predictable. It is true that it was his plan all along to declare the dissolution of Parliament on the 13th day of the month. He thinks that the number 13 will bring HIM luck. So far his leadership has been a shambles for the country. But it is also true that he simply forgot about this, until reminded again by his son-in-law.

He was a friend I never met. I only knew him from some e-mails we exchanged. I thought I was short changed by the treatment given to me by a government hospital. I wanted to complain but knew not how to go about it. I said so in my e-mail to him, and within a few hours the complaint letter was ready and was published in Malaysiakini. The letter was written in the inimitable MGG Pillay style, terse but right to the point. I enjoy his style of writing, without fear or favour, and maybe that was the reason he was sued by Vincent Tan.With the new found freedom of blogging, I started writing from November last. What a disappointment, the writing is so drab and sometimes unashamedly I admit I could have written better. So disjointed, not knowing what comes first, the head or the tail. I can’t go near the way MGG Pillai wrote but he was, I believe, a born writer trained by numerous teachers during his journalistic days before he reached the maturity.

I hope the people who made the life of MGG Pillai miserable pay for the unjust things they did. The action may be delayed because MGG Pillai is not with us now. But pay they must and suffer more than what MGG Pillai endured. I believe MGG Pillai said the right thing about Vincent Tan The reason being, if the allegations were wrong, there was no need for the elaborate scheme for a lawyer to draft a Judge’s ruling.

May MGG Pillai rest in peace.

Lawyer’s involved in the ongoing Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam tapes are suggesting that the family of the late Mr MGG Pillai sue the Government, the Judge Mokhtar Sidin, VK Linggam, and tycoon Vincent Tan, for a long list of offences including criminal offences.

Police reports willsoon be lodged arising from the testimony provided thus far to the Royal Commission. The Royal Commission heard explosive testimony from Miss Jayanthi Naidu, formersecretary to VK Linggam, who said that Linggam wrote the verdict which was incorporated into Judge Mokhtar Sidin’s judgement in favour of Vincent Tan against MGG Pillai. Linggam wasthe counsel representingTan in the same case.

One more revelation. I only know the local hospital to get treatment, not even private clinics. But Mayo clinic, does the Government foot the bill, I thought our eye hospital Tun Hussein is already the best. No dates are shown and possibly at that time of the treatment, there was no Tun Hussein hospital.

If you are a Government official are you privileged to get treatment from Harley street specialists in London.

Anybody can explain.

Royal commission member Mahadev Shankar today refused to
recuse himself from the inquiry, charging that the application made to seek his
recusal was attempted to scuttle the hearing into the Lingam tape.

On Wednesday, lawyer Hazman Ahmad, who is representing former chief justice Mohd
Eusoff Chin, one of the key witnesses in the inquiry, made a written
application, citing Mahadev’s ‘relationship’ with lawyer VK Lingam as the
grounds for the application.

Today the grounds were disclosed to the commission – that Lingam had arranged
for an eye specialist from the Mayo clinic in the US to fly in from Bangkok to
treat Mahadev’s eye condition.

Lingam is also said to have foot the bill for the accommodation of the
specialist and his family here in Kuala Lumpur.

“This is all false. All my medical expenses for my eye disorder were paid by the
government,” said Mahadev.

“The medical records will prove this,” he added.

Let me summarise for you the plea by Datuk M.Kayveas.

  1. He cajoles, please honour your words. UMNO have done so, but not MCA, Gerakan and MIC. Act in good faith, return the 2 Parliamentary and 7 state seats. When have politicians honoured their words and keept faith. But I like the gall in him, he is going down to basics and treating all the parties to a couple of lessons in honour and faith. His future is in a seminary for religious people. He should do well.
  2. He suffers memory relapse. This 2 and 7 figures belong to an earlier generation even before he was in PPP.
  3. He talks about MCA, Gerakan and MIC squatting on PPP land. I am sure his legal mind can think of something.
  4. He awaits replies from the 3 parties. He will have to wait until the cows come home. His request has been KIVed pending other important matters. Perhaps after 8th.
  5. He brings out his formula for success, give what you don’t want, I will put on my opposition costume and win it for you.
  6. Taiping is for me. I only know Taiping, in other places people don’t know me – though a bit contrary to statement No.5, he wants to save his …anything can be added here.
  7. No Taiping I quit. He has been told many times to quit. He forgets calling wolf wolf too many times may result in somebody calling it a bluff and decide against PPP.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14, 2008): People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk M. Kayveas wants the leaders of MCA, Gerakan and MIC to act gentlemanly, honour their words and return the seats that were allocated to them in good faith.

“While Umno has returned the seats they had taken by giving PPP the Bukit Gantang parliamentary and Kota Alam Shah state seats, MCA, Gerakan and MIC have yet to do so.

He claimed that MCA owed PPP two parliamentary seats, namely Ipoh (now Ipoh Barat) and Menglembu (Batu Gajah) and seven state seats which are Ayer Tawar (Pantai Remis), Pekan Lama (Buntong), Pasir Putih (Pasir Pinji), Kuala Pari (Tebing Tinggi), Sungai Raya (Simpang Pulai), Pusing (Jelapang) and Gopeng (Teja).

Gerakan owed PPP the Beruas parliamentary seat and three state seats, namely Jalong, Pekan Bharu (Canning) and Pasir Bedamar while MIC owed it the Bidor (Sungkai) state seat, he said.

“It is a mere sincere, honest request. Something which belongs to us but somebody else is keeping it, so I am asking for it back.

“Just like the squatters who have been using other people’s land. When the landlord wants it back, you have to return it. There is no choice. You can’t keep people’s property like that. It is the same. Simple logic,” Kayveas told a press conference after chairing a PPP supreme council meeting this afternoon.

He said the party’s secretary-general had written about the matter to the secretaries-general of the three parties on Wednesday while he had written to the three presidents today.

“It is up to the presidents now. … Please write to us officially, whether you will return them or not. We will accept whatever the answer,” he said.

He said if they could not return the original seats, they could give PPP other seats which they were not confident of winning as PPP had an advantage over them because it was once an opposition party.

Asked what he would do if the seats are not returned, Kayveas said: “We will cross the bridge when we come to it.”

Kayveas said when PPP joined Barisan Nasional (BN) in 1972, it had four parliamentary seats and 12 state seats which it won in the 1969 General Election but later it was only given two seats.

Kayveas also stressed that he only wanted to defend his Taiping parliamentary seat and would not accept a change.

“It is too late now. If you want to put me somewhere else, it should be six months or a year back. Now we have everything prepared in Taiping, from operations room to posters.

“If they (top leadership) insist on me to go (somewhere else), I think I better quit. PPP has its dignity. Please don’t kick me around like a ball or treat me like an adopted child,” he added.

Earlier, in a press conference after the Umno supreme council meeting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Kayveas did not object when he said there would be no changes in seat allocations for the coming elections.

He also said Kayveas will be given a seat but it has not been decided where. (Sun)

I found this from the web site of The Malaysian Bar. Odd, this article does not appear in the on line Star Paper.A 20 year wait for the land is a bit too long, but then it’s election time. How I wish elections are held every year. A year is good enough to review the performance of our elected representatives and easier on the people to decide who is good and bad. The present 5 years is a tad bit too long, the report cards get bulky. Have their released the report cards yet.
