Love Your Candidate II

In an earlier posting I praised Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, going around his constituency without any goodies, but with the trusted formula of love. Love conquers everything, and in this case will dismember whoever has the guts to stand against him. I even see the Second Finance Minister going around dishing RM 80,OOO to NGOs but can he beat the noble and novel way of our Putrajaya member who believes in what was an old Sidney Poiter film “To Sir With Love”. In a way it is creating Malaysian history, a candidate who believes in an orthodox way to garner votes as all the voters love him. Even the Prime Minister has never resorted to this political tactic which our Tengku has perfected. Perhaps, it is only a suggestion, the Barison Nasional banners and posters could carry this theme and people who are burdened with all types of difficulties, can forget their difficulties, and follow this mantra “I love my candidate” It’s a winner.

One small set back though, this annoying report carried my Malaysia Today is not compatible with the theme I love my candidate. Putrajaya voters pleaase decide.

By Little Bird

Its not just the Melayu who are pelupa but the Chinese, Indians, Dayaks, Kadazans and everyone else too. And the opposition parties are the greatest pelupa. We all forget so easily.

Recall just about three weeks ago there was much news about another multimillion Ringgit scandal in the Ministry of Tourism which is headed by the mamak turned Malay royalty, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. Some insiders, from a few years ago, had set up a bogus company in Korea which was then used to siphon out money from the Ministry of Tourism through the usual fraudulent means.

When news of the scandal broke, it even became a public spat between Tengku Adnan and Shahrir Samad, the lame duck hypocrite Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. Tengku Adnan wanted his own Ministry to investigate the scandal through an inquiry. That would mean that they could easily cover up the scandal because too many people were involved.

Shahrir said let the ACA investigate the scandal. The ACA did investigate this scandal. And then what? Nothing happened. Insiders say that the case is now closed. The ACA has been instructed to cold-storage the investigation. The story goes that the ACA went to the Ministry of Tourism and confiscated various files. This clearly made Tengku Adnan very nervous. Obviously he was also involved.

But Tengku Adnan called Abdullah Badawi and told Badawi that the ACA had confiscated a lot of files, including files that had much information about the Monsoon Cup in Terengganu. The Monsoon Cup has more skeletons and corruption than a bogus company in Korea. Tengku Adnan warned Badawi that if the ACA started digging too deep, other things involving the Monsoon Cup, would also come up. That would be embarrassing to Badawi.

Fully understanding the can of worms that could be opened, Badawi promptly called up the ACA and asked them to cancel the investigation into the Ministry of Tourism scandal. That is why this issue has died as suddenly as it came up.

So what is the purpose of writing all this, someone asked? Well, can someone bring this up again? Can the DAP or the PAS or PKR quote this specific example and ask Tengku Adnan or the Government to explain? They are definitely not going to explain but at least lets keep reminding them and ourselves that we have not forgotten. Then more people will NOT vote for the BN.

The Monsoon Cup scandal is linked directly to Badawi through Patrick Badawi and Khairy’s boy, Wan Farid, who heads the Monsoon Cup committee. They are stealing money by the millions. Since it is a tourism related event, the Ministry of Tourism is also indirectly involved. So do not expect anything useful coming out of the ACA investigation.

Notice how Shahrir Samad, the Chairman of the PAC, has also started playing his real role? Totally quiet.

Subra, A Has Been

Subramaniam, former deputy president of MIC, wants to come back for active duty. Two years ago he was ousted by Samy Vellu and today he is in political limbo. Subra as he is called, served for 27 years and set the record as the longest serving Deputy Minister (quarter of a century) in Malaysian history that totals 50 years.

Subra and the late Datuk K.Pathmanaban were brought into MIC during the tenure of Manickavasagam who was MIC president from 1973 to 1978. Datuk K.Pathmanaban was a Harvard MBA holder.

Sami Vellu has termed the rehabilitation of Subra as rumours and wants it to remain so. Vel Pari, Samy Velu’s son, is also reported to have met up with Subra but this is denied by Vel Pari himself. As reported, K.P.Sami and Datuk Govindaraj, ex MIC members are supporting Subra. Basically his supporters are of the opinion that by Subra coming back to MIC the party will regain its importance among Indians.

Astrologer P. Suthanthiran also comes into the picture to give a glowing picture of how the stars are in favour of Subra for the next 5 years.

The only problem that surfaces is the leadership qualities of Subra, who, for 27 years has been a faithful follower of Samy Vellu, and sad to say Subra had failed to show any prominence as a successful leader. He followed the leader, and he makes a good follower, but to lead may not be his cup of tea. This also goes for the present day MIC second echelon leaders who have not proven any outstanding qualities.

The astrological signs may auger well for Subra, and this is in his personal capacity, but alas what are the astrological status for the good future and welfare of the Indians. No crystal ball will ever help. What is required is dynamic leadership to demonstrate to UMNO the Indians are part of this country and they in fairness are entitled for the goodies this country can offer. I don’t think so, Subra can fit the bill.

Subra tight-lipped about comeback

KUALA LUMPUR: Former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam’s supporters are on the offensive for their leader’s political comeback. A source from Subramaniam’s inner circle claimed that their leader had met Barisan Nasional’s top leadership on the possibility of contesting a seat.
He also claimed the matter had been relayed to MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu but there had been no development on the matter.
When asked, Subramaniam refused to comment. The only thing he said was: “People are talking about it. My supporters still want me to rep-resent them.”
Samy Vellu also declined to comment when asked, saying that: “It is all rumours. Let it remain as rumours.”
It was reported in Tamil dailies that Samy Vellu’s son, S. Vel Pari, had met Subramaniam recently.
Vel Pari, however, denied meeting the former deputy president on poll matters.
“He has known me since I was a little boy. Out of respect, I acknowledge him wherever I see him,” he said.
MIC deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel and vice-president Datuk S. Veerasingam also refused to comment on the speculation.
Subramaniam’s staunch supporter K.P. Samy, also a former MIC central working committee member, said that if his leader made a comeback, it could cool off the tension between the members, many of whom were allegedly still angry over Subramaniam’s “forced” departure two years ago.
“The opposition is also worried that Subramaniam’s supporters, who are currently in other parties, might swing back Indian votes to BN if he makes a comeback,” he said.
Former MIC vice-president Datuk V. Govindaraj is also openly campaigning for the return of Subramaniam to mainstream politics.
“MIC can regain some of the confidence and the Indian votes that had waned since the Hindraf rally on Nov 25 if Subramaniam is brought back to the main fold.
“He still commands a large following among the Indian community,” he said.
If supporters and political pundits were not enough to resurrect Subramanian’s political career, astrologers, too, were hard at work to prove the point.
Astrologer P. Suthanthiran said Subramaniam’s stars were good and good things would happen to him from now.
“According to his birth date, which is on Oct 26, 1946, the stars are in a favourable position and he will enjoy good fortune at least for the next five years,” he said.
“He will prosper in all fields, even in politics. He will rise high and might even be made a full minister as I see his salary will increase to more than RM30,000 a month,” he said, in reference to a minister’s monthly salary.
