Did anyone saw this item in the Tamil newspapers or any other newspaper. I always thought none of the leaders ever apologised for the demolition of the Hindu temple in Padang Jawa. Najib has done it, would the others including Badawi do so

.

Najib apology on demolition of Hindu temple on Deepavali eve – six more apologies by Umno/MIC leaders awaited

The front-page headline of the night edition of China Press is “Najib apology – demolition of Hindu temple on Deepavali eve”.

This is a manifestation of Makkal Sakti (People’s Power) but it is a grave error for the Barisan Nasional and MIC leadership to think that such an apology is acceptable or satisfactory answer to the Malaysian Indian political awakening and uprising following the seminal 30,000-people Hindraf protest in Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 25 last year.

If Najib and the top Umno leadership are serious in wanting to making amends for the long-standing political, economic, educational, social, cultural religious polarization of the Malaysian Indians resulting in their becoming the new underclass in the country, Najib’s apology must be followed by at least six other apologies and ensuing actions, such as:

• Apology by Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Khir Toyo as the No. 1 man in the Selangor state government who must bear full responsibility for the demolition of the Hindu temple in Shah Alam on Deepavali eve;

• Apology by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for Umno insensitivity in holding the Umno General Assembly last year on the day of Deepavali – when it would be regarded as highly insensitive and offensive if MIC, MCA or Gerakan had held their national delegates meeting on Hari Raya Aidilfitri for instance.

• Apology by the Umno Youth deputy chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, the Prime Minister’s son-in-law in publicly castigating the Indian news vendors for “anti-national” actions in having a press holiday when the Umno general assembly was being held resulting in the policy speech of the Prime Minister and Umno President at the Umno general assembly not given coverage the next day – when it was the fault of Umno in fixing its general assembly on Deepevali, long a press holiday.

• Apology by MIC President and sole Indian Cabinet Minister for over 28 years in refusing to admit the fact of the marginalization of the Malaysian Indians – a stand which he reiterated during his recent visit to India;

• Apology by Abdullah for the detention of the five Hindraf leaders under the Internal Security Act for fighting the cause to end the marginalization of the Malaysian Indians – and the five should be released immediately and unconditionally.

• Apology by Samy Vellu for the 20-year-long Maika Telekom Shares hijacking scandal in betraying the rights and interests of Malaysian Indians who had put their trust in him by placing their life-savings in Maika shares.

Are these six apologies from the UMNO and MIC leaders forthcoming to demonstrate that there is now a genuine change of heart in the top Umno leadership to meaningfully end the marginalization of the Malaysian Indians in the country?

Seized Bibles returned

PUTRAJAYA: Copies of the Bible taken from a woman at the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal recently has been returned to her, Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said.

He said the English Bibles were confiscated by a Customs officer from the woman who had just returned from a visit to Manila. It did not involve the ministry.

“The Customs officer has no authority to do so and on being told of the matter, we asked the Bibles to be returned immediately to the person,” he said, adding that no Immigration officer was involved.

Fu said the incident should not have taken place, adding that he had clarified the matter with the Council of Churches Malaysia (CCM).

He said the address of the woman was taken down but no telephone number was recorded and as a result, the ministry had to wait for her to call to collect the books.

What are the 7 issues, or is it 8 according to this letter writer in Malaysiakini:

1. an equitable participation in the share market;

2. Indian intake in public universities;

3. better employment opportunities, especially in the public sector;

4. increase the number of government scholarships;

5. greater access to entrepreneurship training and micro-credit loans;

6. an effective urban poverty eradication programme; and.

7. the establishment of a dedicated mechanism to monitor and evaluate the delivery of public sector services in a just and fair manner.

Before coming to the letter, let us ponder over the 7 issues as brought out by Samy Vellu. One need not have to go further as, if these 7 issues are implemented by the government, which I don’t thing it will agree to, can you imagine the progress of the Indians. In 5 years time the Indians will be prosperous competing with the other races. Do UMNO just smile and say good the Indians are progressing well and it augurs well for the country. The wealth and socio economic benefits do not come out of thin air but it will be at the expense of the UMNO group of Malays. For UMNO that is political suicide.
The 7 issues sound comprehensive, but even if the government agrees, for the sake of gaining the Indians vote, will the Little Napoleons of the civil service allow the implementation. In this country leaders say something but the implementation is another matter entirely.
It is an open secret any concession given to the Indians, comes through MIC. Do you think the cup will flow over so much so that after MIC leaders and members after taking their share will allow the benefits to be channeled to the ordinary Indians – fat hope.
The letter below talks about the 8th issue. Maika and the Telecoms share issues are like a repeating nightmare. There is no end. Samy Vellu would want to wave the magic wand to make the Indians forget the past. It is not that easy is it. The story of the Indians relating to the present plight is there for everybody to see. It is not fiction. Therefore the Indians have to stand alone without MIC because this group does not really care as long as the members can fill their pockets. All talk of helping the Indians is pure rubbish. The opposition may not do much as the ruling party will ensure only their members benefit. But the least the Indians can take comfort that they did the right thing in denying the MIC because of the past history.

What about the eighth issue, Samy?

Film Citizen | Feb 4, 08 4:02pm

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Seven issues affecting the Indians.

After being a leader of the Indian community for 30 years now, S Samy Vellu raised the seven issues affecting the Indians in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak at PWTC.

All this 30 years, what have they (the Barisan Nasional and MIC) done to elevate the needs of the Indian community?

Samy has knowingly omitted the eighth issue that is close to heart of the 80,000 odd shareholders of Maika Holdings who were cheated and promised that their investments will bring decent returns to help them improve their wealth accumulation.

Why was this issue not raised at the meeting? Are they hiding the abuses by all those who headed Maika? The biggest culprit is the founder of Maika Holdings who raised RM100 million. What was done with the money/funds collected for which no one is prepared to answer at MIC AGMs.

There were so many reports about the management of Maika and the Telekom share issue but no authority was bold enough to take action because it is an Indian company. Let them wind up for no matter what happens, the Indians will blindly vote for Barisan Nasional.

Our great leader is panicking now and to garner the Indian votes, he comes around with another election promise. Please do not fall into the trap. Let us be united and vote for deserving cases and not the clowns who have deprived and plundered the community in every aspect.

This started from the fragmentation of the estates, the taking over of estate land for development without any consideration for the re-settlement of Indians, the forced migration of Indians to urban squatters, the lack of rehabilitation programmes for the Indians so that they could survive, the depleted condition of Tamil schools and you name it.

Why is there a sudden up surge in interest to help the Indian community? The answer to this question is that the general election is not far away and our votes are very crucial to the MIC leaders and our Umno masters. So our mandor Samy Vellu will be out in the streets begging for our votes but do they deserve our votes?

The year 2008 should be a watershed to show the entire nation and the world that Indian Malaysians are very hurt over the marginalisation of the community, the arrest of the Hindraf leaders under ISA. We should cast protest votes against the Barisan. This will be a great lesson to the political masters to show them that every community is important to the nation no matter how small the number is when there is an election.

May God guide and give strength to the Indians to face the challenges ahead as the political masters have sucked up our rights and opportunities. But the Indians will survive no matter what happens.

What about the eighth issue, Samy?

It would appear that V.K.Lingam did not leave out any judge, or at least, the most prominent ones. Wow the power and influence he wielded sure makes me wonder on the quality of the judiciary. There are 4 more judges mentioned. Will have to wait for the Royal Commission Inquiry findings.

More judges implicated

news flash Lawyer VK Lingam’s younger brother, V Thirunama Karasu (pix), today alleged more under-table ties between the lawyer and judges at the inquiry into the explosive judge-fixing video clip involving the prominent lawyer.

The names of several judges – apart from former chief justice Mohd Eusoff Chin who has been implicated earlier – were brought up for the first time during Thirunama’s testimony today.

They included former Court of Appeal judges Lamin Yunus, Mokhtar Sidin, serving Court of Appeal judge Low Hop Bing and former Industrial Court chairperson W Satchianandan.

Thirunama, who took the stand as the 18th witness, also said he was ‘100 percent’ sure the person in the video clip was Lingam and he was ‘110 percent’ sure he (Thirunama) was not mad as alleged by his elder brother.

“I can recognise from his body language, he talks very loud, his movement, he gets very excited in a conversation and the words ‘correct, correct, correct’ – the words he used so many times when I work for him,” he told the commission.

We had Karnan earlier and now Razak. What is wrong with you Indians, you have improved yourself, why all the belly-aching.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today denied claims by certain quarters that the government has disregarded the views and suggestions of the MIC on improving the lot of the Indians in the country.
“It is not true. I am refuting the claims that the government pays scant attention to whatever suggestions or views put forward by the MIC,” the Deputy Prime Minister told reporters after opening the MIC’s special assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
In fact, he said, the living standard of the Indians had improved due to the MIC’s efforts.
“The government always pays attention and strives to solve the socio- economic problems of the Indians in the country.
“We should not allow ourselves to be tricked by the opposition who can say anything. But all this (development programme) is a commitment which the government is able to fulfil,” he said.

How romantic. What is there to fear when Malaysia’s Karnan is here.
A MIC chap started this thing about Karnan or Karna – he said something to the effect that Sami Vellu is the re-incarnation of this tragic figure. Tebrau MIC division chairman M. Soorianarayan, butt kissing and boot licking, said Sami has been generous and committed. He must be into Tamil films a lot. You can expect more from him. Yes Karnan was a hero but also an example of misjudgement. Is Samy misjudging the Indians. I don’t know.

Karna remains a tragic figure for millions of Hindus and Indians to this day. He remains a brave hero, a courageous spirit who braved impossible odds in his whole life, and died with terrific courage, valor and honor, to rise to immortality in fame. He is especially famous for his generosity. He is also an example of misjudgement and how that renders all the fine qualities of an individual futile.

The newspapers are full of these. The government is all out to make the people happy. Their main aim is to convince the people that part of the governing involves giving them goodies here and there. Ask and it shall be given seems to be the motto. The Prime Minister says, quote “”Whenever the complaints, requests are right, genuine, appropriate, definitely we will consider them… whatever we can give, which are appropriate, we will implement. This is the principle we uphold all this while in the development of our country,”. So it is now giving time and even Santa Claus cannot match up.

Now, what is the duty of the people. Can you be ungrateful and forget you have received goodies. The component parties like MCA and MIC are blowing their trumpets, see how good the government is. So, what is our part rather than elect the free givers. Some ungrateful people grumble, what is the big deal, it’s our money anyhow. A definite no, goodies are only given on special events like a birthday and that is actually what is happening now. So will there will be goodies next year the people ask. Yes, definitely if it is an election. What are you telling me that these goodies come every five years once. I am afraid so. So what now. Receive and ask for more. It will be granted. If you don’t then it is going to be a long wait. Please decide.

Long Wait

I like elections. They bring out a lot of promises from the candidates, some of which, would be conveniently forgotten once elected, but nevertheless they are good talking points for the people out there to vote to decide. Who is the ideal candidate electors ask, do we vote the party or the candidate. Candidates will promise this and that but the voter has the unenviable duty to decide whom to vote.
I remember reading author V.S.Naipaul, in his book The Suffrage of Elvira – (1958), and there was this candidate going around house to house campaigning. In one hand he carries a big stone. In every house he requests the voter to vote for him, but in case you want to vote someone one then please, he implores, kill me with this stone. Naipaul did not go further to explain the response from the voters to be but I am sure if you are confronted with a big stone what the answer will be. Anyway this candidate lost the elections.
Along this vein comes another Malaysian to be candidate, Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. He doesn’t carry a stone, but carries with him love. He claims the people love him and therefore will vote him. This reminded me of film stars in Bollywood and Kollywood in India, who get elected in elections, simply because the people who watch them in the screen love them.
I am not sure if the Tengku was in films, but one thing is for sure, he must be a fantastic loving character for the people of Putrajaya to love him.
So whoever stands against the Tengku will lose because the people there don’t love him. But I thought, come election time, the candidates go around claiming they care for the people and it is the only time they boast they even love their enemies. Little to they realise that come election time, there are no enemies but all lovely people. If there is any enemy than it is the candidate himself as the picture says.
So Putrajaya voters be aware.

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 3 (Bernama) — Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident that the opposition candidate contesting for the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the impending general election will lose the election deposit.

“The opposition can try me and I’ll make sure they will lose their deposit. I said the same thing during the last election. I believe the people in Putrajaya will vote for me. They love me…so, they will vote for Barisan Nasional,” he said.
Tengku Adnan was speaking to reporters after opening the Putrajaya Sports Carnival and flagging-off participants in the Le Tour De Langkawi (LTdL) here, today.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Tourism Minister, believed the people in Putrajaya still needed his service.
