You get very good comments from letters written in Malaysiakini, and the one on ‘UMNO comedy corner – we’re not laughing, written by FCCM is a classic. It quotes several UMNO members exhibiting total ignorance of the situation that exists but putting on a show of ‘I know best’ attitude to the amusement of readers who really wonder what is the country being led to.

Kayveas said something about the anger of Hindraf being directed towards MIC and not the Government. This is another matter for you to smile. PPP is never concerned about the Indians or their plight. All he wants is to toady up to UMNO and his statement was meant to please the ruling party, but alas, he got a big slap and he is being called up by Nazib. Anybody wanna bet he may not get Taiping or for that any Parliamentary seat but could be satisfied with a state seat.

As for MIC it is the end of the road. Read my comments here, here and hear.

The contamination of the sleeping sickness is fast spreading. Mohamad Rahmat, has two adversaries his age and of course the Pm’s malady. Under such circumstances you can brush aside his statement and let him sleep. What he mutters in his sleep does not carry much weight.

Nazri is so special. Addressing a group in Kuala Kangsar, Padang Rengas nearby is his constituency, he has taken MIC by surprise, please Indians, he says, don’t abandon MIC. Of course this was meant for the Indians in his area, but Datuk Samy Vellu cannot be pleased. By the way where is the hot line Samy promised, new phones are commissioned in a day or two, is he looking for an auspicious day.

The PM is angry. What more can he say. The rallies, the arrests, the threats, his impotence in trying to run the country when everything is going wrong, what can he do, smile!

I had always had doubts about Samy’s maths abilities. I had no doubts at all about his ‘suthal’ (spin in Tamil) abilities.

For the former please read my earlier post.

Bernama brought this out under ‘Indians In Upward Mobility, Says MIC Chief’ and I quote this÷

Samy Vellu said professionals and managers accounted for 11.5 per cent of the workforce, associate professors, lecturers and nurses 19.4 per cent, sales personnel 22.9 per cent, agriculture workers 4.9 per cent, craft and trade workers 9.4 per cent, machine operators 20.1 per cent and elementary workers 16.3 per cent.

The top hierarchy is good. So, 30.9% of the Indians are the elites of the community of a total of 847,900 total workforce. The balance of 73.6%, wait..wait something is wrong, either the calculator or my fingers. Somebody out there please help me!

Cops outnumber People: 5 to 1
ARRESTED: Bar Council Human Rights Chief & Deputy

This is the subject matter of Jeff Ooi’s posting in Screenshots.

I read that about 100 (that’s what Star stays) volunteers turned up for the Bar Council’s “Festival of Rights’ in conjunction with UN’s World Human Rights Day. To greet them were Government representatives numbering about 500 and 1 helicopter. Who says the Government is not a caring entity, and the people who have thoughts otherwise, please reconsider your negative concept and move with the times. The Government does care.

But something was missing? The water canons and the chemical water. The Police have been co-operating with the people a lot during the last 2 months. They are there even before the people arrive, and add colour to the occasion, and as a added bonus, come equipped with tear gas and chemical water to protect the on-lookers if security is threatened. The marchers and the Police meet. The tension is unbearable, the marches just want to walk, the Police expect them to create problems, problems don’t turn up, Police get tensed up and nervous, and to release themselves from the nail-biting uneasiness use tear gas and chemical water. During this time, arrests are made, people man-handled, tossed about and finally the Police are happy their work is done.

The next day the papers point out the marchers are at fault and to prevent problems the Police acted. Following this, with immediate effect the people arrested are charged, mostly released and the episode is closed.

The people do not want uninvited guests, particularly the Police who look so awesome with their big guns, and to do this, without hurting the feelings of the Police, may want to have impromptu gatherings and matches. I believe in the Philippines they did this. These gatherings are arranged for many reasons where people want to tell the grievance they have to the Government. The Government is smart. The excuses are. Channel it to the media. It’s a small group. Let the 25 million tell us. We will act then. But elections come once in 5 years. So, to remind the Government now and then people resort to expression in public to vent their difficulties and if the Police don’t know about it and even the by-standers will participate after being made aware of the cause and eventually 25 million marchers will come. Please do not invite the Police!
