We are equally puzzled, Sir.

SEGAMAT, Dec 7 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he is puzzled over the actions of certain groups of Malaysians who are bent on berating their own country by telling lies and accusing the government of cruelty and ethnic cleansing for 50 years.

Stressing that he did not like such groups, the prime minister said that the absurd and extreme actions by Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) had caused outsiders, who do not know about Malaysia, to believe the accusations.

“Those who are not in the know may be taken in and outsiders may believe it if they don’t know the country well, if they don’t have enough information,” he told some 3,000 people at a meet-the-people session at Dataran Segamat here today.

Abdullah, who is on a two-day visit to Johor, said that if the Barisan Nasonal-led government had been cruel to any race, it would not have remained in power.

“We want to promote a government that practises power sharing so that the country is peaceful and no one is cleansing any community,” he said.

Abdullah said: “About 50 per cent (of the cabinet) are non-Malay and non-Muslim ministers, they can’t be closing their eyes and merely looking at what Umno will do in this government.”

He said that the government cared for all the races irrespective of their religions and had even conceived the caring society concept. It also helped all those in need.

“Their representatives in the government are constantly looking at the plight of certain groups, those who need attention to improve their status,” he said.

He called on the people to safeguard the political stability and peace which they have been enjoying all this while.

Abdullah said that the government would strive to develop the country for as long as the people wanted the BN to remain in power and understood that the BN government was constantly planning development programmes although it would take time to implement them.

“This government has the support of the people. This government will plan, this government has policies, this government has implementation plans, this government will find the money and allocations and this government has the machinery to implement them.”

These were important elements that a government must have to develop the nation and its people, he said.

He said the government would always listen to the people when implementing development programmes.

There were many organisations to channel the plight of the people to the government such as the Village Development and Security Committee, farmers’ organisation, fishermen’s association and non-governmental organisations, he added.

He also called on the people to be thrifty, spend wisely and to make provisions for their children’s education.

You know our Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Patail is personally involved in the prosecution of the 31 Hindraf rally supporters for attempted murder. It is very commendable he has taken on this role in spite of the heavy responsibilities he has to undertake. A writer in Malaysiakini suggests, there is something odd in this and appreciates  the zeal that is undertaken to supervise a case ostensibly relating to 31 men attempting to kill 1 man. To my mind this would have been 31 men standing in a row and  beating one blow for number 1, second blow number 2 and so forth. The force behind each blow was pre-determined, something like, raise hand by 6 inches then bring down gently on the body (not sure if body part was mentioned). I can’t imagine 31 of them grouping and hitting the victim because this would have been more serious body harm. Any how our AG has a long way to go prosecuting 31 people which will be for more days than the Altantuya case. There are about 17 lawyers for the defense.

This same writer was curious to know why our AG, knowing the international implication of the Mongolian murder case, was not there to prosecute the murder of Altantuya. The AG knows best, perhaps he did not want to expose himself internationally.

But the Mongolian murder case was before the Hindraf case, AG may want to make amends by appearing personally now.
Talking of international case our AG had to attend to relating to one i.e. Pedra Branca. I don’t want to spoil your reading by reproducing verbatim the mystery of the case, you can read it in Jeff Ooi’s detailed article.

I only hope there will be slip ups like in the case of Pedra Branca.

My prayers go for this brave 31 men.

Several late news today awakened in me some very disturbing thoughts, Where are we heading to? What hornet’s nest have been disturbed? What are WE in relation to THEY?

So, the odds are stacked heavily against a group that is asking for fair play. There was no luxury of playing the game as per rules because the losing team was playing bare-footed and fine points of leadership were not there. The winning team was far too superior, well attired, well trained with a history of excellence.

Well, I have no choice, it’s a mountain to climb, I have no mountaineering experience, might as well give up.

Am I sure. I check on my gut feelings, my frustration, my inability to articulate, what am I to do. Are there any precedents I can fall back on? There must have been, I am sure, nothing my limited knowledge can vouch for.

I know truth will overcome. Have to wait.

Lies are proved otherwise over time. I need not fear. Carry on, insurmountable it may appear, I remember the sage Valluvar, I will hold on to it.thiruvaluvar.jpg

Small things inspire. Like blogger Bob K who says “I reckon its relatively easier for us to moralise about this and hypothesise on the rightness of a group’s actions when we are not on the receiving end.”

Ultimately, I can’t digress, lie down, blame everything under the sun, it is my own future and the community that I care about.

Persevere, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
