The Royal houses of Pahang and Kedah are against the Agong getting involved with the BERSIH 10-Eleven. The Agong is also reported to be not happy with BERSIH march and he has disowned responsibility. The only snag is, following Royal protocol, the announcement must be made not by a janitor, I read, but some other soul. I am not sure of Royal protocol, and therefore desist from making comments. Some assert the Agong must personally or through the right official make the comments to make it authenticated and a number of us are waiting anxiously for the second announcement, if at all it comes. So what is the situation then, two against one, and the one we expect in favor is some sort of a lottery. I can also anticipate more Royal members making statements. They would not want to be left out in this time of anxiety and fortune telling. For the people, what the other Royals say will have no relevance, unless of course there is support for BERSIH; can we expect that?
Where do we go now?
After the 10th November success, the people had immense hope, especially when the Agong arranged for a representative to receive the petition and earlier we were told things like the Agong agreed to accept the appeal and even wanted to know the composition of the crowd. Seven days went-by after D-day and the waiting was finger-biting. Then comes the sad news delivered on a Friday and it would appear the Agong was not even around when the press conference was called, because he was fulfilling his religious obligation. Another irrelevant thought crosses my mind, assuming the Agong was round would this have happened. This indeed is a true Agatha Christie mystery. But then I am not a powerful politic maverick and my thoughts for a clean and fair election can only originate from hope, divine intervention or, not lottery, since divine intervention is there. As such, we the electorates are the suckers, vote, allow some buffoons to rule for us and keep on complaining for a period of 4 or years, during which time the politicians treat you like cheap dirt, throw in some crumbs and there viola we are ready to elect the new set of orang utans, pardon my language. The politicians always have the last laugh.
Aladdin’s lamp is a beautiful tale of yonder. The people are naive enough to believe one rub of that wonderful lamp would make our sorrows disappear. Our world is a world of reality and not magic. Let’s assume the Agong declares he has seen the petition and he is with the people – will this be the beginning of a new era of hope, free and fair elections, the politicians can’t cheat and even the Rashid chap from the Election commission will be pensioned off or given VSS. Fat hope. Badawi and his towering group of (thinking of a mild word) people who have enjoyed fun and riches because of the stupidity of the electorates are they going to swallow this without a fight. They must be imbeciles if they do that. There is no free lunch.
All this is very gloomy. Wait, it is not the end. Look around us. Thailand, Indonesia and the Phillipines. Changes came not because of Aladdin’s lamp. There was sweat and tears. It is not violence, I am totally against it, but let us use political diplomacy to keep on convincing the people to change. After seeing the YouTube presentation I am won over by the immaculate performance by none other than Mr Malik and learned a catchy word the people of the heartland. Get them involved and see changes. It is easy to say hard to implement and we the small group demanding change cannot do much, the present group will still dictate. We have to, there is no two way. If not, we may have to welcome the present group with open arm and tolerate them for….how along. Only God knows.
